Yes, I have exp of bishop skinner, not through any policies I hold myself (because I wouldn't) but in helping others who have had claims rejected. The policy is full of significant exclusions and they are utilised aggressively, in my opinion, and I'd suggest you insure @GJW or Y or Pantaenius or elsewhereWe are currently with Bishop Skinner marine, RYA/RNLI offshore members boat insurance ,I note that our policy is with AXA, but does mention underwriting by Towergate marine ,after reading comments on here regarding Towergate wondering if we should change as just in process of renewing ,anyone got any experience with Bishop skinner, had a quote from GJW and there's nothing in it, any comments most welcome good or bad![]()
I firmly stand by what I said, and reject your correction. I was not making a legal ownership point when I said "group". I meant they work together. If you make a claim under a policy u/written by Axa, and sold by Bluefin/Bishop Skinner, you WILL find yourself arguing the claim (if it is disputed) with Towergate. They work together as a team. It is irrelevant whether they are in the same corporate group.Just to correct JFM -Bishop Skinner are a trading name of Bluefin Insurance Service Ltd and are most certainly NOT the same group as Towergate.
They do have a trading relationship with Towergate, but also place policies with Navigators and General, HKJ, and other leading yacht insurance markets.
That nearly happened to me but I caught the exclusion and rearranged but the the **** that has happened since is ...wellAlthough not really boaty,my boat club arranged insurance via Towergate and wrongly assumed that the cover suggested would be suitable for our purposes.
We suffered a considerable financial loss when the policy they provided failed to cover a pretty common event that most clubs will be faced with at some point or other.
But if Towergate dont pay out, then you have wasted 100% of the premium with them.I was completely new to boating in early in 2011 and bought insurance for my 9m 350HP diesel sterndrive rib from Towergate, and I have renewed twice since then. So based on this thread, I just got a quote from GJW which compares premium wise as +50% for the same input data. It looks like their business model is to take intrinsically low risk (i.e. long serving in experience in particular) business, and nothing wrong with that. So for me with modest years experience (and no claims) I can (and do) have RYA tickets galore, and whilst the cover may well be "better" it seems to be available only when another insurer (like Towergate, I guess) has taken the early risk or put another way, accommodated my ambition to go motor-boating in the first place. GJW declined to quote on a 57ft motor cruiser, which kind of underlines my conclusion!

jfm knows his onions, you would be foolish to ignore his advise
Thanks for reply,s sorry for hijacking your thread Shaun
Andrew I totally agree with you - I went with these guys on JFM's recommendation as HKJ that I used previously was light on there cover and with these guys I can use the boat solo inc night passage so is good for me - T

jfm`s scatter cushions cost more than most boats on hereCraftinsure don't exclude noobies and jfm says the policy is ok.
At his hourly rate it would cost you 10x the policy price for him to read it, yet he read a few and posted his view on here.
That should tell you he feels strongly about it.
He doesn't know everything, after all he thinks scatter cushions enhance a boat. But i trust his view on insurance.
