insurance companies

does anyone insure their boat with towergate insurance as I have had a few quotes for the new boat and they are the most competitive, the policy is under written by royal sun alliance

thanks again

I had a policy with them for about 15 years and found to be good to deal with, never had to claim. Now I use GJW who I also would recommend

I have used gjw for the last 5 years, never had a claim though.
My view is you never know how good a company are until you need to claim.

I had a slight battle this year at renewal , to get my business they had to match a quote from premier marinas which they did, saved me £110.

I'd go with gjw and build up your ncd.

yes I was with GJW on the old boat but they are £200 more expensive than towergate on the new boat

That's worth noting, it was always the other way round, they now let me use maximum no claims on 3 policy's I have, will cancel 1 once one of boats sells.

There's been a few bad experiences with Towergate reported on this forum. I'd also be concerned about their financial strength. I bet if you speak to GJW and told them how much the competitors quote is, they would match it, or get very close. I'd stick with GJW.

+1 I've used GJW for the past six years, and they have always beaten any competitors quotes.

The only better quote I got this time was from Velos but they took over 48 hours to get back with a quote, GJW got back straight away so stuck with them as it had to be sorted quickly so I could collect boat.

I use PANTAENIUS as I read their policy documents and they offered in my view the best cover. Surely it shouldn't be about the price (within reason) but what is covered that you be looking at.

That is my opinion too. Speak to them (GJW) first. I have had recent one very minor claim with them on some damage that was done in the Marina whilst I was not there - settled very professionally and without fuss.

Our first boat was insured with them and they paid out on a stolen stern drive with no quibbles. Now with GJW as they have a tie in with MDL and their quote was the best and seemed to confirm the tie in discount relative to other quotes at renewal.

Shawn, we're with Towergate and have been for 4 years. So far so good but never had to make a serious claim yet (long may it stay that way).
