Insurance - Adverse claims history

I have a NCD built up in steps ..From what I understand if you make a claim you fall down a step .
So indirectly although I have not done it ,making a claim would result in paying more .

Funnily enough the NCD is protected for a claim arising out of damage when it's on it's berth ,ie neighbour dings it .
Which has not happened ,but think if neighbour rents out his berth ? ---- and it's windy
Its a Martello policy from Colmans the Sunseeker people .
From memory the NCD isn,t much may be 20% ?? Built up over 5 years .

Depends. Y insurance do not operate a no claims policy - they just give you the best rate they can.
In my experience 1 minor claim did not increase my premium.

Hmm , I think due to the top speed I,ve got another issue to wiegh up-re insurance .
Y,s quote was significantly maybe 2x more than Colmans ,who had my Sunseeker and were happy to transfer the NCD .
Another factor then Autum 2014 ,was Y wanted an insurance survey -cos of age boat is a2001 hull with 2003 engines ( factory refit) .Then subsiquent marine surveys every ( can,t remember the time intervals )

Where as Colmans has a clauses which just says something from memory " reasonable maintenance -care has been done " or words to such .No intro survey ,no following on surveys etc .

As it happens I am gradually working through via a yard with the paper work to back up
"reasonable maintenance " -what ever that vague term means ?
New risers fitted week before sale by previous owner ( I have the invioce )
Like new bilge pumps , -new fuel pipes ,new racors last year ,
This Easter while out all new black pipes -the water pipes , gear box hydraulic pipe s
New main engine seacocks + skin fittings and 3 other ceased seacocks + skin fittings done -- all by a yard

So what's the life of a riser ,seacocks, main black water hoses ,racors ,fuel pipes - ??
5-7-10 years ? Or wait until they fail ? Or do they never fail? What's reasonable maintenance ?
With a new boat above mostly does not apply -but 5-7 years old then what ?

I am at a loss as to why Y ins want surveys on boats less than 20 years old , 20 is the norm for a survey of condition and current valuation not 10 years or under which is what I was last asked for on a 10 year old boat , a word in the right ear sorted it. If I'm asked for one on the next purchase I'm not sure I'd be renewing with them.

I have had 2 weeks from deal to del in Italy .flights booked ,del skip organised ,remedial works to be done etc .
Did not have time to fanny on -did have i remember a conversation /e-mail exchange .-something to do with underwriters -speed issues - .Boat was 13y then

Colemans were good for go .

Sunseeker on outdrives was £1100-1200 ish
This was and still is less than £500 pleasant surprise .

I had the policy out a few times prompted by posts on here to check stuff like "electrolysis ' failed sea cocks etc .
Seems to stack up . Of course you never know until you make a claim .

Marina has CCTV /night vision , locked at night with one entrance -secuirity guards + barrier entrance and dog patrols .
There's a camera looking down the pontoon right now .
Theft if that's the most likely actuarial claim -just does not happen .

Only thing I firmed up with Colmans ( after reading on here ) was leaving the boat @ anchor unattended .
Like all going ashore to a beach /shore side restaurant -or just to a beach in bay .Easy done in the Med
They checked with the underwriters -what came back in writing was its ok ,ideally keep it in line of sight and be able to get back to the boat inside 30 mins if needed , I mean be no more than 30 mins travel distance away .
Can spend as long as it take to eat etc

A few years ago my boat was hit whilst on it's mooring, the guy in the yacht contacted the office who passed on his details to me.
Passed on the details to my insurance and they authorised the repair.
Following year at renewal I asked if they got paid OK from the others insurance and apparently they didn't pursue it and made no difference to my insurance cost.
Boats been hit twice more since then on it's mooring and the ba$*ards haven't left details.

I'm with Y and have 14 year old boat and not been asked for survey. Maybe it's value related too?
