I can't recall ever seeing this discussed. Does claiming on a Boat Insurance policy (e.g. for an accident) affect the following year's premium? Anyone experienced this either way?

Depends. Y insurance do not operate a no claims policy - they just give you the best rate they can.
In my experience 1 minor claim did not increase my premium.

I am at a loss as to why Y ins want surveys on boats less than 20 y.
I am at a loss as to why Y ins want surveys on boats less than 20 years old , 20 is the norm for a survey of condition and current valuation not 10 years or under which is what I was last asked for on a 10 year old boat , a word in the right ear sorted it. If I'm asked for one on the next purchase I'm not sure I'd be renewing with them.
