Installing Gates

One feature I liked on the new EXPENSIVE Malo (http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?351927-Malo-37-Video-gallery-and-360s) is the "gate" in the guardrails. Does anyone have any idea if it is possible/easy to install something like this on a boat that does not have them?

Just fitted some to our Dufour
Getting gates correct size was tricky, but got ours fromhttp://http://www.seascrew.com/browse.cfm?STAINLESS-PULPITS-PULPITS---STANCHION-GATE&l=0000000795
A good rigger should be able to sort out the swaging on wires. Remember to pick location carefully as you need access to put nuts on the gate supports sockets

gate and ladder

I have a similar set up that i fitted during the summer when i replaced the scuppers and toe rail, i repositioned the stanchion points which are welded to the scupper to create a gate at mid ships and just got the rigger to modify the existing guard wires, fortunately the strength of the existing set up meant I didn't need to fit diagonal supports to the stanchions forming the gates.

now much easier getting on and off with the only dog in the world what won't jump !

The gates on Jetsreams Dufour look ideal.
The main issue when adding gates is how the two stachions either side of the gate are going to be braced so the top ends don't pull apart due to the weight (fenders) on the guard wires.
In Jestreams case the double stanchion does it.
On our boat the bottom half of the stanchion had a diagonal brace and was screwed into the wooden toe rail. I found this bracing to be inadequate over time and in the the end fiited additional stanchion supports and 'L' pieces.

Again over time this has not really been adequate as the top half of the stanchion is unbraced and has deformed outwards.
