Installing a shower drain - any ideas?

On the Sealine 215 I've just purchased there is a separate shower / toilet compartment which has a shower but no drain in the floor, merely an area where the water would run to and just sit there. Not much use really, although a drain at that point would sort the problem.

Has anyone had experience of installing a drain in a shower compartment and who would I use for that sort of work?

How strange. I assume the shower pan is below sea level so you would need a drain fitting, a hull fitting (placed above the water line), and a 12v shower pump, plus some flexible pipe. Sounds a fairly easy DIY job if you can get suitable access.

Theres usually a pumped drain in moulded shower / toilet set ups.

On our 328 we have a small trough with a wooden board fitted to allow the water to pass. Inside this trough is a small bilge pump wired to a switch by the sink and plumbed into the sink waste. It works very well and looks a simple enough job.

I thought it was strange too. There is a moulded area where you would expect to see a drain, even a wooden slatted board which sits over it, but no drain!

Cant see access beeing to good. I reckon you may have problems retro fitting anything. Sealine want a kicking for installing a shower tray with no drain after all it is a fundamental requirement that the water be removed /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif numptys

Ours is a retro fit you can tell from the wiring, so it is do able.

Yes but is it dooable on a 21'er. May be wrong but cant see thre beeing much room.

You could be right, but the compartment isnt much smaller than ours the problem might be access below the trough for plumbing.

Sorry dont know was fitted when we bought the boat. If you need me to take a closer look at ours to see exactly how its routed let me know.

Well how about a bilge pump with a float switch, either integral or separate. Would need regular inspection to make sure it doesn't become clogged but is a solution if space underneath is tight.

After all that is all a shower drain pump is, maybe in a different form but does the same thing.

A rechargeable bilge pump connected to an empty 5 L washing up liquid bottle wedged behind the loo should do the job.

Alright no need for the washing up liquid bottle ; just put the outlet pipe through the porthole.

Had similar problem where the previous owner had just piped the drain to let the water run into the bilge, where it was dealt with by the normal pumps. Trouble is that soapy water SHOULD have kept the bilges clean, but some personal detergents and soaps congealed into gungy lumps. SWMBO not pleased when asked to clean out ...

IMHO this makes me wonder why people slag off bayliner when a so called quality boat manufacturer like sealine stop short of fitting a shower pump

I know. What is the point of installing a shower without a drain??! Whose bright idea was that?

Phil. In reality are you ever going to use the shower cos i havent. Have used the transom shower on occasions much less tidying to do. May not be worth the hassle.
