Does anyone have a manual showing the injector timing marks on a Volvo Penta aqd21a, I have to re-con a pump and I want to set the engine in position before I remove the pump.

Or a link where I can get the info?

injection pump timing

Hi i have just had my injection pump serviced by Colchester Fuel on my aqd21 its transformed the engine no smoke starts with only 12 secs preheat never run so well. Right the bad news is there are no timing marks on the engine the good news is on the side of the fuel pump you will see a plate held on with two 6mm screws remove the plate ,turn the engine slowley by hand looking into the hole on the side of the pump the rota will turn inside the pump you will see a line on the side of the rota come round ,line it up with the line on the pump body .You can now remove the pump.DO NOT TURN THE ENGINE WHILE THE PUMP IS OFF.The pump is driven by gears not a chain so refitting is quite positive no slack on a chain to worry about. If have any Questions you can ring me on 07803289621 good luck

Many thanks for the reply's, that the plan but I could'nt remember where the marks were and did'nt want to strip the front down to mark the gearwheel.
This one starts ok but a faulty governor means it has slow throttle responce and it won't stop!

PaulGooch; I am a man with many colour's of indelible marker pens, good point.

Just a small but important point. When you re-install the pump you should turn the pump drive gear so the "line" is just above the sight hole. When you slide the pump home the "line " should come into the centre of the sight hole as the gears mesh. This is the same setup as the MD32A.If you dont position the line correctly you will never get it right

pump timing

Hi i first removed the heat exchanger which made it much easier to remove the sea water pump behind the pump you will sea the gear assembley the injection pump shaft is keyed you can remove the injection pump without desterbing the gear It is not a hard job to do.

This post has been on here a while back.

The correct way to determine the engine injection angle is to set the engine piston before tdc, to find that angle you use the dropped valve method as per the manual, you then rotate the injection pump to align the correct mark through the side plate.

So you set the engine to tdc no 1 on compresion, push down the valve spring to release the collets, then remove the spring, with a dial gauge you find tdc them turn the engine anticlockwise reading the gauge and meauring the drop of the valve, that gives you the engine piston setting before tdc.

This problem started on saturday when the boat was launched (not my boat) but I have the job of fixing it without the settings.

Do you know the BTDC angle, or valve drop measurement BTDC when the pump mark is in-line? thats what I am after.

The last time I changed an injection pumps on one of these Peugeot 2.1 engines it was in granada taxi, but I could'nt remember the measurments!

Thanks for the info.

it would be nice to read your feedback after you fit the thing,Im in the middle of the same thing with me old MD32As
