Injector Pump Problems (Volvo Penta MD21A)

I've been having issues with the engine on a friends boat for ages with the main issue being that I have been unable to bleed the whole fuel system upto the injectors on the engine. I can bleed upto the injector pump quite but can't get anything out the otherside when turning the engine over. I've done the standard google searches and youtube videos but still no luck. I even had a engineer come and have a look who had no luck but suggested the injector pump was broken. To add to the fun I can't even identify the injector pump. We think the engine is a Volvo Penta MD21A but the injector pump on it does not match up with any engine schematics that I can find. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

The 21 was based on the Peugeot XD90P 2.1 engine fitted in thousands of vans and trucks, still made in India. You could get a cheap used pump from just about any scrapyard to try.

Someone did mentioned it was based on a Peugeot engine but I didn't know which one so that's very useful to know thank you. My issue is that I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything when trying to bleed the injector pump before hunting round for a replacement.

Make sure the timing is spot-on with the pump. TDC sounds simple, just make it right.
