I have a need to buy an infrared thermometer for use on the engines of a boat. I'd like to know which make and model gives the best bang for your buck? Prices seem to vary a lot! Any advice would be much appreciated.
I bought one of these from Maplin about a year ago to use at home for balancing radiators after installing a new boiler. Very easy to use with the laser pointer, and seems to be accurate.
Bought one on ebay a few weeks back to do central heating balance work. A small yellow one loads of new ones on ebay only paid about £10 and is perfect........remember though if sensing a bright shiny surface it will not work, you must cover the surface with masking tape or similar to get accurate reading.
I tried mine on a cup of hot tea. The black, grey and white areas gave different readings. Black being most accurate when compared with an electronic thermometer.
