All other manufacturers (as far as I can tell) generally have an "end of life indicator", but no other manufacturers disable the light when this point is reached.
I also don't want my nav lights flashing or doing any other non-standard behaviour. I don't want a container ship mistaking me for a channel marker.

Zero problems with aftermarket LED bulbs in a standard housing. Far safer, and safety should be at the very core of this. The fact that it obviously isn't says a lot about bureaucracy these days.

So the manufacturers admit they are building in planed obsolesce into the LED nav lights to ensure further sales.
Yes, most marine LED navigational lights have an indicator to show when they should be replaced, although few boat owners are aware of this feature. I suspect it is requirement for certification.

The lifespan is quite long, for example Aqua Signal quote 20,000 hours. Most boat owners are not going to be using their lights for this long, but if you are sailing full time as we are this can be reached reasonably quickly. We managed to clock up this time in a little over six years of cruising. Replacing the tricolour/anchor light every six years is expensive.

Aqua Signal have chosen to design their light to commit suicide the light when this limit is reached, which I think is stupid and dangerous. For all other manufacturers when the rated end of life is reached the light will continue to work.

If it is due to certificate, It should ne made unlawful as its against my rights to have a product with a good life expectancy

Once consumers get to know this, consumer will vote with their money. If my car stopped after a defined kilometer reading, there would be people to fix it of the car buyers would go somewhere else.

It was posted that Aqua signal are no longer around, may be this is why
