In praise of Garmin

Visited the Boat Show on Tuesday. Called in on Garmin with a colleague and after discussions with their reprsentative Peter Hawkins he purchased a new 152 GPS. In the course of conversation I said I had lost the cover for my old 120XL - which I hasten to add works as well as ever after many seasons use - he said phone the office and they will send a replacement. I did and it arrived the next day without charge. How's that for customer care? I have to say that over the years I have purchased 3 of their products and have always been more than satisfied. If there is a thing called brand loyalty then I've got it!

Garmin's high level of customer service has been well reported here many times in the 3 or so years that I've been "on the board" and all power to them. If only more companies would follow their lead.

Perhaps we could get Kim to copy out all the good things said about Garmin and forward them to Volvo. Mind you Volvo would probably raise an invoice for reading them

Re: Hear hear

I had a 12Xl which went on the blink after possibly being whacked around a boat, I called their helpline 18months after biuying it and they sent a new one. So I'm similarly afflicted.

Garmins dedication to customer care serves as an object lesson to every other business in every other field. I will always buy their products if there is a choice apart from anything else their instruction books are written in English.

Fantastic, easy to use, simple instructions works every time. I will always buy Garmin as the equipment is excellent. A hell of a lot better than my NAVMAN that came with my boat. Will be swapping it for a Garmin shortly.

Ooops I've recommended a product, will probably have all Garmin complaints (if any) forwarded to me now!

Completely agree with you, Garmin can do no wrong in my eyes. My Mum bought me Gary as a present for me to navigate around Holland with. Everyone took the micky out of me, but i loved him.

The test for him came at the end of the cruise when we were out in a force 8, on the flybridge we had a chart plotter, another handheld GPS and Gary. there was so much water coming over the top the chart plotter was unreadable and the other GPS packed up in the middle of the Dover Straits. It was all down to Gary and he did the job. Unfortunately a few days later Gary died for no apparent reasons, he was sent back to Garmin and replaced with no fuss. Gary II is just as brilliant but i go miss the original, we were so attatched, plus i lost all my courses.

Gary is in my eyes the perfect bloke, follows me around, tells me where i am when im lost and doesnt answer back.

For those who don't know Gary is an Etrex thingy.

Re: Gary comes in a yellow t-shirt....

I shall watch out next time I'm in a pub full of elephants that my Bitter is not too bitter or too creamy! :)
