Did anyone notice that the RNLI want

"all schools to utilise resources to prevent water-related drownings . . . "

(In Brief, current YM, p. 17)

- Nick

(Yes, I have just got my YM and am stuck in bed with the flu dissecting it minutely . . .)

utilise resources etc....

Business Speak. Doncha just love it.

The only non-water related drowning I can think of was that of a glue sniffer who fell into a barrell of glue.

Or would that just be a simple case of asphyxiation?

butt

Don't forget the Duke of Clarance and his butt of Malmsey (1478 and all that, Wikepia tells me).

If they find out you'll get 'RNLI advise harnesses to be worn while drinking Malmsey.'

Re: butt

Hmmmmm. Don't know about this particular Duke of Clarence but I assume that if he fell into some whiskey/brandy/etc. then that would count as a water-based drowning because ethanol is soluble in water and most spirits are under 51% alcohol.

Who cares anyway? I think the implied emphasis in the original post was 'water-related drowning'.

As opposed to what other type of drowning? Scotch mist? ;-)
