Not worth it. It won't comply with the RCD. Well it will, but it won't be marked as complying. So you have to prove that it does. Thats the way it used to be. So you could run into probs with selling on etc. This has come up once or twice before. Do a search on it and you'll find a hive on info on it.

Depends who the manufacturer is. Many of them are used to CE/RCD specs, and can issue a CE cert for the boat if the model has been built to that spec.

Depends on age and manufacturer really. Worth a phone call/email if new or within a few years old

Regal sent me a cert for mine after purchase, once I'd discovered I required one to obtain EA licence for Thames.

Many US companies used to issue them free of charge, though I've noticed at recent boat shows that CE marks are becoming a chargeable item

Check this site out http://www.yachtauctions.com /forums/images/icons/cool.gif It deals in liquidated sales and some of the deals are incredible. I have a friend who has just bought in a 2000 Bayliner 2655 with 3.75 gennny, air-con, heating. Merc. 7.4 on a bravo 3 leg and only run 18 hours - price? £20k landed at Southampton. Arrived last week and is immaculate.

Surely though if your buying and american boat new over here from the dealer, it should be CE marked or comply with the RCD thing. I didn't think they could sell them otherwise.

Yes I did it last year, think I posted last year as well to a similar question. Just check the RCD info as says in a following post but its pretty straight forward. If you want any more info send me a PM.

Looked at that site. Nice Bayliner Express on there that is a massive saving over even a decent seconhand one. And only run 18hrs........now you've got me thinking!

Remember you have to add shipping and vat on total invoice. Also this is an auction and you will rarely get for the posted price. I bought through a dealer a brit who ships all the time to Europe based in St.Petersburg on the Gulf Coast, his deal was as good as any on Yacht Auctions. He handled everything including cleaning and freight prep.

Yeah, you still need a certificate to prove it though, and they don't supply as standard (or at least Regal didn't). I'd guess the chargeable option at the boat show is like delivery charges on cars. You've got to have it, and it's not an option, but it keeps the base price lower.

No - but I'm just starting the process. Boat is due to be built early next year, to arrive in UK around Easter - we'll see what the difficulties really are as the process drags on. Shipping costs are about $5k (from SoCal) for a 40' boat (raggie) - and then there will be commisioning costs in UK.

RCD isnt a relevant concern in my case (but I might try and get it if it isnt too complex)

Racing boat, not used for any other purpose?? It's the only exemption I can see that fits

Got it in one... but I'm also trying to persuade the builder that having the boat(s) CE marked would enhance their value..
