Good morning,

Any advice and info on the costs and process for buying a 20 year old motor boat in France and importing to Ireland?
Cost is circa €100k
What additional costs will this attract?

Thank you!

Both EU so only transport costs. Just make sure you have god documentary evidence that VAT has been paid.

If the boat is French registered then it should come with good documentation. if you are buying through a broker they should ensure everything is in order .

Two things come to mind.
You might need close attention to your documentation if the boat is travelling through the UK.
Also, if the boat was originally built in the UK, it would be worth checking its location and VAT status on 31st December 2020.
In other words, is the boat in "free circulation" in the EU?
AFAIK, registration has no bearing on the VAT status.

Check if vat was paid. Most likely and maybe doesn’t matter at that age.
Then it’s your transport costs. No registration is needed in Ireland. €100 for the ship radio registration.

I did similar from Spain last year and it was the transport that hit me hardest.

Btw for our neighbours, Ireland is synonymous with the republic but Ulster is for not for Northern Ireland.

Plan was to sail it over to Ireland
The boat was built in the states
Thank you for those points though- appreciate it!

Gets called Ulster by older and more extreme 'loyalists' who also refer to Ireland as 'the Free State' even though that hasn't existed since 1932.
I had a neighbour who was a lovely guy unless you got him onto politics, then he became an Ian Paisley clone :ROFLMAO:

I think it will need a CE certificate. Best to check if it has one, if not they can be quite costly.
Yes I was wondering this. On the surface, if it was sold new into the EU then it should have one, but if it was a grey / personal import then maybe not. And if not, I’d walk away, lots more boats out there.
