We have a plan.

I have booked the Hotel Lafayette for up to 100 people.

They will provide us with a buffet from 8.00 onwards. This has several benefits

- The number of people is not critical so it doesn't matter too much if you don't get to Cherbourg
- you can pick and choose what you want rather than me choose one meal for everybody
- you will be able to socialise with other forumites, or sit in one place all night as you prefer.

The buffet will offer

- Stall of salade and vegetables.Boiled eggs.
- Delicatessen.
- Cold Fish.
- Cold Meal.Chicken .Pork
- Cheese and Desserts
- Drinks: Red wine, mineral water and coffee.

Apologies if this is not the most exciting fare, but I am sure the informality and banter of the evening will be highly memorable.

Each person will be asked to pay 30 Euros in cash to the hotel, ie not to me, on the night.

They normally expect a 30% deposit in advance, but have agreed to waive this for the crazy sailors, so theyare taking a risk based on me saying 'Trust me I'm British.'

I am assuming everybody on Twister Ken's list will attend. Even though you do not have to make a financial commitment in advance, please do let us know if you are not going to make it. Not least, this will save me some personal embarrassment, if I have overbooked.

I will provide you with directions from the marina - it is a 15km/ 1mile walk. Plans are in hand for pre-dinner drinks on the way.

Watch this space for further exciting news !!

That's not the Hotel Lafayette with the dodgy girls is it.........?

You know.......the one that's somewhere between 1 mile and 15kms from the marina and only sells red wine.........is it THAT one?

ok so I missed out a . - it should say 1.5km.

yes it does only sell red wine and have dodgy girls, so I assume you will definitely be there, then.

I'm a bit worried about your decimal points.
Here's a few you can use if you need them ............................no charge of course!

A watering hole en route sounds like a good idea.

Now we are 5 on Bear Necessity- but I guess you'll pick that up from Ken's next list.

For £21 a head, I would expect white as well as red!

yeah, i think fatipa makes a good point, it would be best to individually go to various dfifferent resturants to be booked nearer the time with breakway groupd of say minimum six people allowed to choose a resturant OTHER than the lafayette, no? Well, that's what i'll be doing. Well, i mean, it's what i would be doing if i was going, and i'm jealous too. Ooh no,wrong word, i mean envious.

Well done BIGNICK! Most professional travel organisers I know wouldn't have done so well at such short notice.

It couldn't have been easy to find a restaurant for 100, especially with no deposit, so it must be a bit disheartening to hear talk of breaking the group up.

I'll be there even though I don't usually drink red........and I'm sure most other people will be too.........but is there a reason why it's only red or can they be asked to supply both?

Yeh right!
I too, thought it was good of Big Nick to organise that.
Also stops things from getting "Clique-ie"
I need to meet as many peeps as possible to put names to faces.
This is important so that I can gauge who I can safely upset in the future.
So there!
Briani

Thanks for your support - ignore the detractors - they are only trying to have a bit of fun, in lieu of coming with us!

I am sure there will be white wine too - I just 'cut and pasted' the e-mail from the hotel. I have to talk to them each night this week to confirm the number, so will check.

We will have Gosling's Black Seal on board, which is the local rum in Bermuda. Mixed with ginger beer, it is a very popular drink known as a Dark 'n Stormy.

Hopefully these conditions will be confined to the drinking!

Thanks Brian - I admire your commitment in saying you will be there. I just listened to Marine Call - they are talking about W/SW F7/8 on Thursday and Friday!

Hope they are wrong, or it settles down for a Friday night crossing.
