Can anybody tell if whether I need to pay import duty on a yacht brought over from the US for which I do not have title - I'm effectively pay 75% of the boat for a two year charter; after which I pay the remaining 25% and title is transferred ?

Would have to pay the import tax at the time of title transfer ?

Thanks in advance.

You give few details....However if the Yacht is American flag and you have a charter document then it is a visiting yacht and so comes under those rules...Foreign yachts are only allowed on the coast for a set continuous period of stay which I believe is 12 months at which time the boat would be liable for VAT .I believe there are ways of circumventing this or reducing chances of a visit by entering the Eu via a more favourable port.

One regular visitor would use Southern Ireland ... Not sure what the benefit was but he then frequently wintered and overstayed this period before heading off on his voyages.
