Hello, im back from the QE2, god she is a gorgous ship! When ive got time for anyone interested ill stick up her vital stats, its pretty damm amazing, all that tonnage does over 30 knots and with hardly any vibration or discomfort.
As much fun as it was exiting the sea, crossing the beach and ringing Mum and Dad on boxing day (only to find that they are drunk) informing them that it was well into the 30's and be told to erm well go away Brighton was -15 i did however fear for my life a couple of times.
A couple of ports we had to anchor at so we had to get in the tenders (hardly tenders as they were as big if not bigger than my boat). All the skippers know is full ahead and full reverse at the same time, consequently blowing things up and whacking the arse on the jetties and the ship. Sometimes it was really hard bitting my tongue, when i said could i do it they looked laughed and informed me i was a girl - went down a treat.
I was surprised though when i took a visit up to the bridge. I was expecting state of the art gps's and chart plotters etc. what did i find? A garmin 128. So i told the 3rd officer that i had one of them and i didnt expect the QE2 to have one and he came up with some spiel that he didnt like it coz he didnt know how to use it.......so i showed him! He looked at me with the 'your female and blond' look and told me that he had a much beeter one that was being repaired for £1000, i replied it cant be that good if it needs repairing.
So reluctnatly i got off the ship waited 3 hours extra for it to stop snowing in New York so i could fly home only to find that when i got home i had to wade through water up to my waste (im 5'10) pulling my Nan and her suitcases in a dinghy to the front door. Oh and already now missed a day of lectures and so wanting to get in car and drive down to Southampton, but which side of the water is my car on..............the wrong side. So now have to do an absolute Paulineb no no and use public transport tomorrow to go fetch her (my car that is).
Just as i thought things were ok i find out that im not going to the boat show on Saturday coz Dad went without me last weekend, but he also went without Mum, that didnt go down well! But not too disappointed, chatting to my flat mate and others and they say its not much cop this year!
Ohh before i forget I went sailing and snorklikg on a catamaran in Barbados and it was quite possibly the best thing ive done - so going to look into going some sailing.
Please can someone put the heater on in this country!!!
