If You Had £100k to Buy a New Yacht...

I would not buy new. I would buy a second hand boat already scratched. Because first time backing into the marina berth I am bound to get it wrong and scratch it.

That sort of money could buy a used, but sorted and well equipped modern 40 footer with good performance and set up for long distance cruising.

But we don't know what your plans are, let us know and we can be more specific.

I'd try to find another £300k for a Southerly 42RST.

Sorry, doesn't really answer your question. :p

Ha i would spend the next 20 years. Chartering great yachts from latesail.com

Honestly for 100k i would try and find a 40ft yacht. Although you could get a no thrills 42i from Sunsail for that i think.

Not enough to convince me to buy new!

An Amel 64 would also be very high on the list alongside a Farr 72 or a Wauquiez 65. £100k would be the deposit methinks.

I think they want at least 10% as a deposit. So it would not be sufficient for a deposit on a new Amel 64

I am quite content with the Twister I have had for 15 years, I don't need anything bigger. I would probably just spend some of the £100k on having her restored by a first class boatbuilder.

Having been on a few I must admit I don't like Amels. Horrible fake teak decks and interior and they sail like a pig, under canvassed.

Wrong. My mom and her partner had one for 10 years. When they sold it they got the same price they bought it for new. The 'fake' teak decks were as good as the day the boat was delivered from the factory. The boat crossed the Atlantic, survived some BIG storms and every item in the interior had years of experience in its design and execution.
