If you are fed up with La Vagabonde....

They are just video blogs, if you like them, fine, if you don’t like them, fine. Just don’t ram your preference down peoples throats because you think your preference is the only valid one. At the end of the day, what are these bloggers doing that warrants such strong opinions about like and dislike? After all watching is entirely voluntary.

+1, except for my one mate with a YT channel ( Sailing Embla), whose channel I watch because I know him, I find sailing channels painfully dull , not the sailing exploits so much as the protagonists and their personalities.
People keep going on about bikinis, why don't they just watch pornography instead of pretending they are interested in looking at AWB's :wink-new:

Agree entirely with that , have not seen Embla for a while , is that the Norwegian guy ??

Have not watched Vagy for some time now , but definitely revived my interest and respect for them
With their recent current voyage , really fed up with bikini and turquoise seas , hope fully Vagy can set a new direction with their attitude and influence . Sophie and Ryan do nothing for me

Could you explain what what distinguishes a simple recommendation from "ram your preference down peoples throats because you think your preference is the only valid one"? And which post in this thread constituted ramming preferences down throats?

I don't understand, nor am I inclined to understand, the "killing children" thread drift. A desperate search to be offended? I certainly didn't see anything remotely offensive in this thread.
Anyhow, my faint objection to Kittiwake & Fair Isle blogs is the preachy nature of the commentary by people who seem to have a rather rudimentary knowledge of European cruising. By all means, flash the flesh and express wonder regarding matters marine but perhaps it's best not to lecture on subjects about which little information is held.

I don't find Kittiwake at all preachy - part of the fun is that they are learning it as they go along.

I think the Fair Isle blog is really aimed at friends & family back home who are not sailing experts, the rest of us can tag along if we feel inclined.

What you fail to appreciate in general is the groundswell of new interest in blue water sailing inspired via YouTube, I think it is the only thing saving yachting from complete economic implosion and an alternative future that requires owners of yachts over 20 years old to shell out £5000 in end of life statutory enviro scrappage fees. These new generation YouTubers often start with little knowledge, but make up for it with youthful good health and enthusiasm. Their newly gained experiences are not broadcast at sclerotic yachting has-beens that hang around a ridiculous British backwater like Scuttlebutt. The newgen sailing YouTubers are promoting their life style and offering advice to the next intake of under 40 newbee blue water wanderers with zero experience.

I get your point, it's great for yachting in general. But..'end of life', really? My two gaff cutters, both afloat and in commision, have a combined age of 186 years :pirate:

tbf i did watch a few of the ryan sophie vids when they started , but within a few episodes they started tutorials which i thot was a bit odd for newbies , and just went off them abit after that ,,i i think they were the first ones i saw glorifying the french nuclear submarine which was involved n the radioactivity polution in the S pacific,, with the irony of a poster of a Pacific beach hanging in the captains cabin ,, i think that was the last straw ,,nope for me it will be the newly rejuvinated Vagy for me whom i hope will be cutting new paths onto more meaningful vblogs ,, enough of the self satisfied self indulgent middle aged americans , and others , petting swimming pigs etc.

Well the suggestion of sinking LV,presumably with occupants,is over the top even if you do find them too commercial/artificial/successful/green.
I can stand the odd episode but see them as being trapped into endless voyaging now for the camera.

it is a bit hard to see how they can follow this latest trip ,, hope fully they can continue with more meaningfull vblogs,, or maybe they can just sell the film rights , star in the movie and retire to their privacy ..

Certainly an aspect worth chewing over. Times and practices move on, and some of us get left behind.

I'm all for youthful enthusiasm - I was skipper of my own little boat from age 8 - but that was based on a lot of reading the works of experienced people like Arthur Ransome, Alec Rose, Chay Blythe, Francis Chichester, Alan Villiers & co.

Anyone ignoring the centuries of experience avaliable is not only setting off with arms tied behind their back without the knowledge of those who have gone before, they are insulting the great many people who have paid dearly for such knowledge - where do they think the charts come from, google ?
