If money really was no object, then something by the Dashews (sp) who built some very interesting sailing and powerboats. Esp the slim, efficient mobo with ocean crossing range. Their logic was that big sailing boats cost quite a lot in wear and tear, so fuel efficient mobos are competative. Reminds me of the skipper of a big yacht that motored unless the owner or clients were on board. Since they had to run gensets for the services anyway, the propulsion fuel worked out cheaper than sailing. A main halyard was £1.2K .

Reality...Money has always been a hard limit. So will keep building small boats that are stable enough to not need rapid movement by my creaky bones.

The one I’ve got. I’d just throw a couple of million at her. As a boat, I can’t think of anything better. That said, she has the accommodation of a modern 40 footer - but the performance of a RORC rule class 1 offshore racer, with docile handling.

(Berthon have a sister for sale in the Med at the moment, and I’ve seen another for sale in Vanuatu…)

Nicholson 55, SURPRISE - Berthon International

This is the rare centre cockpit version. Probably more in line with modern tastes but from my knowledge of Kukri’s enthusiasm for chucking the tops of waves over the top of the crew cockpit and directly at the helmsman’s face, I’d suggest oilskins all round.

I think that if money was no object then the range of things that one could play with would be much wider than most of this forum are thinking of. Therefore , the yacht is not the end of the story. The houses in different parts of the world, the helicopter or plane etc all take a part. The social set will as well. That puts a different perspective on what one does, or wants from one's vessel. It may now become a toy for showing off, or socialising. It may be a refuge for private relaxation. It probably would not be the sort of boat that has been suggested here.
One has to think like someone with unlimited funds to start with. It is not just the money it is the lifestyle that goes with it that is different. So that changes what one might want from one's boat.
My dream HR 40CS or Dehlar 40 would not be even on the radar of someone with a healthy bank balance. In the same way as sailing every day would no longer be a priority either.
Now that bit of totty? ;)

Too big. 50ft would be plenty. I would love to work with a marine architect to have my own boat built. It would be slightly larger than the current boat and share many of the design features but slightly bigger. It would also be a ketch.

The totty delivers itself automatically at any serious level of wealth, so that’s not worth a second thought. Same goes for cars and aeroplanes.

Boats, however, are a serious matter. Clearly we need a social yacht and a cruising yacht.

Here’s the cruiser, a Shuttleworth trimaran, Anton Marden’s “Adastra”, a very rare case of a super yacht built for an owner who really knows what he’s doing and who really wanted to visit interesting places. He says he’s been to them all, now, and he still has a business to run, so she’s for sale. Can cross the Atlantic twice on one fill up:

And now the social yacht. For this we want to go day racing, stylishly, so we can enjoy the parties ashore each evening. Easy choice: Mariquita:

If I recall correctly I didn’t like the small wheel maybe not used to wheel steering but it was a bit of a wrestle I would have preferred a tiller but the aft cabin was in the way
