IIRC In the dash up the channel not one swordfish pilot returned and one got the VC.

Sorry, but there aren't any WW2 german battleships available, they wouldn't fit in the Hoylake boat shed & no-one could launch them across the Hoyle Bank.

Sybarite has tried his best to diss the RNLI, but his arguments have consistently been shown to be based on inappropriate comparisons.

Each time he has been shown to be wrong, he tries a different attack & is again corrected. Any sensible person would have retired from the fray by now.

We have clearly demonstrated that RNLI donors are not "unhappy" altho he seems to be - but why that bothers him so much as a non-donor I cannot understand, so it goes.

Sorry to appear to patronise you, Sybarite, but you do keep making poor arguments. May you never need the rescue services of any country (even your own)

i have been following this thread and although you may not think it is relevant I have looked at Sybarite's profile.He has posted on PBO Forums a total of 7549 posts at an average of 2.1 posts per day.As far as the records go back because they stop at 500 for threads he has initiated 500 threads since March 04.A large proportion are boating related and many others are in the lounge.
However he does like to have a little fun and toss in a time bomb every now and again.For instance on 4th Aug 12 he started a thread and it just said "British Cheating"
He went on to say that although he hadn't heard it French TV are saying that the Chinese and Koreans who tried to loose got excluded from the Games(Olympics).When a British cyclist deliberately falls to force a restart nothing is done and they end up with gold.He then put three question marks ???
One may wonder why he fails to see the comparison between the cost of British and French boats and the differences between the services but always hiding behind the veneer of the legitimate question of could the RNLI do better with their money.

I will leave you to decide whether he is a "Professional Forumite" and/or a Wummer/Troller or does this for the betterment of his fellow man.Perhaps we should have a vote.

The ones built down to limits imposed from outside were the Panzerschiff such as the Graf Spee which were in reality very heavy cruisers None of them had a particularly glorious war record and were ordered to be scrapped by Hitler before the end of the war.

In fact the Germans lied about the displacement of Bismarck and Tirpitz to the tune of about 25%, while the British equivalents, the KGVs, were built to the treaty limits. I have been contributing to the forums for almost 10 years but am far from being the most prolific. Yes I do try to give a French perspective on things sometimes. I’ve lived here for 37 years and can appreciate a lot of their achievements. Just in passing I agree with Sailfree about most things but not when he says that the UK has the best health service in the world. I have health professionals in my family who had their eyes opened by French standards.

Judging by the pm’s I have received asking me about things, some people at least appreciate local knowledge.

As far as the cheating is concerned, I stand by my remarks although at the time I was only giving a commentary on what the French TV was saying. Having represented my country in sport over 20 times, I was brought up in a strong sporting ethic and I was shocked to see a cyclist admitting that he had cheated (deliberately falling) to cause a restart. What was the difference between this and the badminton players who played badly? Riding badly, playing badly: the same thing for me. The general reaction on that thread was to agree with me.

As for King Penguin stating that “looking at his other posts, I can't see many that are pro UK, even during the Olympics he appeared pro to any other country except England.” I asked him to justify his remark with an example. I don’t have many posts on the subject. He prefers apparently to slap with his handbag and then run away.

We are talking about a new lifeboat that is coming on-stream next year with new technical capabilities.

Therefore although I fully respect Chanelyacht's experience I am simply asking him if he is aware of the new technology being incorporated in the new boat. Which he hasn't been on - unless he was part of the development team.

Perhaps if you read (and tried to understand) what was written, you wouldn't always shoot yourself in the foot.

Think you are confusing the battlecruisers with 11 inch guns with the B & T which had eight 15"! like the bigger ones and both Japanese and Italian vessels their displacement was again understated. The latter were really vanity ships, although they did tie down our own fleet and, once, panicked our high command into the catastrophic error of scattering PQ17.
