I hate fitting stuff to the boat especially when it gets "technical". I have managed to fit the eberspacher, the exhaust, the controls and the outlet to the cabin. Phew. i hope it works when it gets put together (it did in my garden so that's a plus)

The techncal bit now upon me = fuel feed. I can tee off the fuel line or i have a CAV filter about 2m away with spare outlet. Or so I understand.

what/where do i get the bit to bolt into the CAV filter with the hose tail end on it, and what thread are these please?
it't better for me to go to the CAV filter as it has a stop tap in the fuel line immediately before the filter - if I try to tee into the fuel line then i'm going to struggle as my old fuel tank has a seized fuel tap (the tank is probably as old as the boat so about 39!) so it can't be shut off :(. Next year will see a tank replacement.

then what do i do about presumably stepping down from the fuel line size to the small bore pipe running to the eberspacher fuel pump. is there a recommended process?

engine is a 25hp beta (to give an indication of the size of things

last question - I assume I need a little fuel filter for the eberspacher unit as well.

1/2” outlets UNF on the filter housing if I remember correctly?? Although remember the ports are there to enable you to pipe the housing either way as opposed to take “extra” feeds.

You can pick fuel up most places but I always fit a tank pickup on new installs. Maybe consider that when you replace your tank.

Filters are a good idea to save most blockages. Much easier to change a filter than rod pipes or start taking the heater to bits!

I looked on the ASAP website and they have the a 1/2 UNF male to 1/4 BSP female Union adaptor - https://www.asap-supplies.com/cav-union-adaptor-fitting-302096?nosto=nosto-page-category2
You could then use a 1/4 BSP male to 6mm hose tail fitting - https://www.asap-supplies.com/brass...404013?refSrc=17888&nosto=nosto-page-product3

My only experience in this is a recent Planar heater install but looking on the butlertechnik website, Eberspacher use short lengths of 5mm i/d rubber pipe into which the nylon or copper pipe feeding the fuel pump/heater connects to, using jubilee clips.
The hosetail I list above is 6mm as the only 5mm one was with a BSP tapered thread.
Anyway both websites are good places to look and I have found ASAP helpful if you call or email them.
Not at the boat for a few days but I have some leftover pieces of the flexible pipe connectors I mention above, some plastic fuel tee pieces, nylon pipe, clips etc.
PM me if I can help.

thanks folks. I think my best plan is to ring butler technik for the hose. My heater came with some of the black flex pipe which I brought home together with some of the capillary tubing so I'll be able to measure what i've got and get from BT.

Regards the outlet from the CAV filter, that's a nice steer thanks, I'll get the bits as they are cheap as 2 portions of chips, and see if they fit - i'm tight for space for the "turn" after the filter as it's right forward in the engine compartment close to the front so I may not have room :( I'll also try to free the fuel tap on the tank but will ahve to be catious (it coming off in my hand will be a "bad thing")

Just bear two things in mind:

1. Ensure that the CAV filter and fuel lines arranged in a fashion that it will continue to hold its prime when heater run and engine off. This will almost certainly be fine.

2. Eber specs do mention that the low pressure created by faster flowing fuel to the engine can cause the Eber pump to starve, or even create a backflow. A 25hp Beta with decent pipes and consequently a fairly sluggish fuel flow is unlikely to cause a problem, but worth thinking about. Also give the engine a good whack on full chat with the heater on to ensure all is well.

Winter's coming. Heater is a great idea ;)
