Identification of stolen goods

Via Brightlingsea Harbour I have just received this - no contact details for Mike Heslegrave but I’m sure if you recognise anything as yours you’ll find a way:

Hi,

I am investigating an individual for a large number of thefts and an offence of handling stolen goods and during the investigation have recovered a wide range of items including boats, boat trailers and marine equipment. The suspect for these offences has stolen boats and marine equipment from Brightlingsea, Harwich and Mersea Island but may have gone further afield. I have identified owners of some of the property but have a lot of items that I have yet to find owners for. I have two boats (a Dory and a RHIB) and trailers recovered that I am still trying to find owners for and wonder if you can assist please? Could you take a look at the attached photos of the two boats and also the below link which takes you to the Essex Police Flickr page which displays the recovered marine items and let me know if you recognise any of them please? Please feel free to share these photos and this link with anyone or any marine sites you feel may be able to assist please. I am in contact with Essex Police Marine unit who are also assisting but have to admit that my marine knowledge is limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated please.

Glad they’re making an effort to return goods.

I was chatting with the Suffolk crime prevention unit at Henham steam fair Sunday just gone and they recommended removing cowlings from outboards as this normally deters people as apparently most bigger stuff is stolen to order!

Jet skis can have seats removed, this causes thieves issues so they’d normally move onto another. A good trailer clamp can deter or better still, remove a wheel and take it with you!

Best thing I think I’ve done is Datatag. When I bought my RIB, I had this given to me as an option and also came with some visual stickers. My BMW also has it as standard on all the panels, panniers and even light lenses, etc...

Indeed there was, hope that was included in what's been recovered.

The removing cowlings thing is a two-edged sword. Apparently, there has been an increase in cowlings being nicked, and then the scrotes look for a matching outboard to nick. This pretty much forces you to remove your cowling, whether you want to or not, unless you want to start fitting a lock to the cowling.

The Gazette today reports that £40k worth of property already identified but more still to be identified. Thought to be proceeds from boat yards. No arrests yet.
