What a fabulous day saturday, sun out and low wind.

However, at night the temperature really plummeted and we were left not only with very slippery pontoons, even the water in Southsea Marina started to freeze over.

As we returned to our boat( after a few glasses of red in the bar and on board Eudora-thanks John) my wife slipped and fell into the water landing in part on the sterndrive.

Fortunatly she grabbed the boarding ladder and pulled it down to climb back onto the boat for a very hot shower.

All in all not a pleasent experience, she now has a very bruised leg.

WATCH OUT FOR ICE ON THE PONTOONS, this could have been a lot worse.

Exeter canal basin was frozen over. Got on the boat last night and heard some very scary metallic twanging noises. Thought the rigging had snapped or something.

Turned out to be the ice. Saw a seagull walking on the ice so must have been quite thick.

She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like the sound a dog makes just before it throws up

Get some Ice-Grips!

My wife and I invested in a pair of "Ice Grips" each the other year. We don't get icy pontoons too often, but when we do these things are fantastic.

Have a look at http://www.jordandavid.com/icegrips.htm

I ordered them direct from Jordan David in the USA and they shipped them over. No fuss, very efficient.

Cheers,

Jerry

Re: Get some Ice-Grips!

Glad to hear she's only bruised. The pontoons were seriously slippery at chichester too and the ice was a good half inch think!!!

My Nat slipped on the pontoon at 5.30am on her way upto the loos once and I said if she gets up for the loo to take me with her (before having a larger boat with holding tank). Imagine if she'd fallen in and knocked herself out, I'd be none the wiser until I got up to find her missing.

Does make you think sometimes.

Chris

P.S. Unusually serious subject for this forum??

FIXED IT!!! So good being an inny!!!

We're on H7 pontoon at Southsea and a similar fate befell me on Saturday. The sun doesn't make it to the top part of the marina consequently thick frost on the bathing platform led me to dramatically slip (skate?) across the bathing platform with only my legs hitting the water. Luckily a decent freeboard height helped. But that water was b****y cold. Glad to hear no serious implications but it does make you think.

Pop over and see us some time we're about most weekends.

Re: hows the stern drive

No only kidding !!

I made a pontoon and the main priority was to cover it with chicken wire , the thought of losing some one due to this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

On some posh pontoons they have aluminium strips these are very dangerous if wet .
Under health and saftey regs the marina's have a duty to protect the public , so why dont they, crist the high costs of moorings .

The lady from Atlantis

Thanks for the kind words. The stern drive is intact and the marina smells a little sweeter (Jean Paul Gaultier) for my mid-night dip. However, my leg and my pride is badly bent. Lord Ballena recommended that I leave the stilettos at home in future. NEVER!!!!!!!! Essential bar frequenting uniform.

With love

Re: The lady from Atlantis

Glad to hear that everything's OK. This time of year trying to get repairs done to outdrives can be a real nightmare and expensive too. Next time you fall in make sure you don't fall on to the boat just in case. Probably best to stick to wellies eh?
