Has anyone done ICC sail recently and if so what should i gen up on? Would i also be better using my yacht (pig to handle but i'm good, just concerned about SWMBO!) or use their J80
When I did mine I used my own boat but got a mate to crew for the day rather than SWMBO (who does things her own way in her own time!). Ensure you can stop the boat in the water next to a man-overboard and can handle her competently in close quarters under power.
I did it in a group at the YC. It was ludicrously easy. The book suggests that you do it in the type of boat you're used to.I had a Snappie 26 and we did the test in a Prout 38 cat as it was the only one in the water in Feb! Even the person who managed an accidental jibe passed! The key thing seemed to be knowing what was going to happen and conveying this to the crew and giving a few orders.
Shouldn't be quite as easy as that. Mob, picking up swinging mooring and windward pontoon, demonstrating knowledge of ColRegs, basic pilotage and navigation - not too different from Day Skipper.
Yes, we did the classroom bit - I rang RYA and asked if I could be exempt the theory as I had YM theory - they said ICC was purely practical so my question was irrelevant /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
The theory was easy - I got 98%
The examiner let some people do it for all of us with suitable explanation. I guess when he is getting 10 fees for one trip he ain't going to make it too much like hard work!
