Hi,
I will finish my summer work just after a week and immediately will go to somewhere in Europe to find a yacht. I plane to buy a 25' - 30' sailing yacht. My budget will be around $10 000 - $12 000. It is not much but this is what I managed to earn for the years the dream of sailing alway is in my head. I still do not have an idea from which country to start lookink for! I know that there are good yachts in USA, but I think I want to try Europe First. So I will be very very thankful to you if you give your oppenion from where (which country) to start with.

As I live in Bulgaria I plane to take a bus to Paris and hitchhike to all the marinas in France, Italy, Spain, Greece.....or if you have a better idea.

I hope soon my dream will come true! - Please just give me your openion about what kind of yacht and which country.....or if you have other advices

Here's a few web sites with big directories of baots for sale:

http://www.boats-for-sale.com
http://www.hwo.nl/en_site/index.html

They are all pretty international, but the first has a french focus, the second UK and the third Holland.

You will normally be buying with EU VAT paid. Perhaps, given your nationality, you can buy without VAT if eventually the yacht leaves EU waters.

Good luck

Re: How to take back the VAT?

Not sure how'd you'd go about getting the VAT back.

If you were buying in the UK, the sorts of vessel that you are looking at are likely to be older, therefore deemed VAT paid, though no VAT has actually been paid on them.

I suspect you won't be able to claim VAT back. And at the the price you are looking at I doubt you'll find and ex VAT boat.

Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge than me will be able to give you a proper answer.

I Have no money to go to US.

Look:
1. As I told you my butget ia $10 000 - $12 000. Only the flight to US is around $1000.
2. I need a visa to go to US and I do not think I want to meet the basters from the ambassy, especially after Sept 11.
3. If I go to US and Buy a yacht I do not think I will be able to take it to Europe alone. I prefer to get from EU, call a friend or two and take it home with them. After that I can practice it for a year or 2 and than circumnavigate.
That's it!

It would be good for other people to confirm this

It occurs to me that a good place to look might not be in areas where people own and sail boats as a their regular activity (like the main French, British, German ports, etc); but in areas that people have sailed to as part of their 'dream' but then found that the dream is not matched by reality, and consequently abandoned their boats there. Examples might include Greek, Turkish, Croatian ports, Gibraltar, and some of the southern Spanish and Portuguese areas.

What do others think?

Re: I Have no money to go to US.

Re: point two. I hope I am misunderstanding your tone.

Working for a company that lost 6 people (it could have been many hundreds) last year when the towers crashed down, I take exception to what you wrote.

I can only hope that the lack of respect shown to the the sons and daughters, brothers, sisters, parents and friends of those that died was unintentional.

The timing of your post was particularly crass.

Really SORRY! You didn\'t understand!

I am very sory. You did not understand me. I just wanted to say that it is hard to take a visa. Especially after Sept 11 and especially because I am a young, single student. I said basters for those from the ambassy only because I know many friends who wanted to go to US and had problems.

My first cousin was in the air going from BG to US (New Yourk) on the 11! She landed in Canada. You can immagine how I felt.

Perhaps this would have been kinder in a private message. English is clearly his 2nd language.

Re: I Have no money to go to US.

Perhaps you're right, but reading it when I did, after a mail from my CEO about the six people we lost, made me quite mad.

I've lived in the US, in Maryland, and knew many people that worked in the Pentagon.

Working for a news and financial information company now, we have very close links with companies that lost large numbers of people.

A couple of friends flew regularly from Boston to Los Angeles usually on Flight 11. They were on holiday last year thankfully.

It gets quite personal.

However, I did say I hoped it was a misunderstanding due to language skills and not an insult to those lost.

I hope Pavel will accept my apology and I wish him well finding a vessel in which to fullfil his dream.

Regards,

Nick
