Life is great !

And we are lucky to have the privilege of going sailing.

But what would you change when sailing in someone else's boat that you know would hurt their feelings ?

For me.

1. Echo sounder in feet and not meters.

2. Echo sounder callibrated as depth under keel.

3. Only allowing one lousy light on to save the battery.

4. We have got to get there come hell or high water.

5. Most important of all - not doing what I say.

Not getting all huffy when....

that brass shackle you objected to fitting because it wouldn't be strong enough shears;

you ask whether he would prefer two interlocking bowlines or a Carrick bend;

you query his planned route through the gas rigs;

you rustle up a scrummy meal with stuff he was about to chuck away;

you offer to scrub the deck (just after he has done it to his satisfaction).

Affording your own boat........

...is like can I afford a mortgage, can I afford to have children, etc. Yes, of course, you can if you put your mind to it!

Yours, asset rich, capital poor.

And another thing - Mobile Phones

Great for keeping people informed etc etc

But............

Some bounders seem to want to run their damn business when we are trying to get away from all that tosh . One so called sailing pal was over an HOUR on one call to a sheila of all things !

Also, I have never overheard one decent phone call anyway.

I run a tight exchange on my ship - phones turned off until after 4pm.
