.. being "economical with the truth" or "it's left hand not knowing what it's right hand is doing" or "being deliberately deceptive by making statements that it's own printed output explicitly contradicts"

Company: Rutgerson

Product: Atlantic Hatches

Incident: the forced replacement of failing hatches in a great number of Bavaria yachts.

In their explaination of the failure of the bond between the acrylic pane and the stainless steel frame Rutgerson blame "... defective processes in the premises of outside contractors which have now been corrected"

However in the Rutgerson catalogue which I collected from their agent at the LIBS they expressly state that "....all Rutgerson products are entirely made on our own premises. We do not use outside contractors."

How could these two statements be reconciled?

Is this an attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of the public by first putting the blame on another party for the failure of a vital component or by appearing to suggest a greater level of quality assurance than really exists?

Which is it Rutgerson? Do you make the things 100% or do you not?

Have you asked them?
Don't PBO have a regular spot where they tackle this sort of thing with manufacturers on behalf of their readers? Might be worth giving their cage a rattle.

I do recall a thread about a number of these hatches being available at a recent boat show - ones which had been previosuly fitted bya major boat builder and then removed.

So, what you are saying is...

...that it is perfectly OK to say
'that dirty ring left around the bath and a piece of cloth that is used on a boat for propulsion purposes' but any other form would probably be {censored}.

Could it be that THEY have done something to upset the establishment of this organ??

I think we should be told!

Well one set of the hatches was mine - now happily replaced by Gebos, but I have to wonder about those special offer hatches by R'son in the boaty adverts. The bad batch were fitted to Bavarias delivered circa. Easter 2001. Bavaria have now changed their supplier.

I do admit that they look pretty, It would be even nicer if they kept the water out, rather than let it in.
