I feel sorry...

We were out. Just a quick trip up to Windsor from Penton Hook for a couple of nights. We were lured by the Times' assurance that sunshine was coming and we kept the faith all weekend only to be rewarded by damp conditions. Still not to worry, we still had fun despite the damp. I just now need to get over my nasty cough :-)

I have to say - I don't know if it was the weather - but there seemed to be a plethora of bad tempered and on some occasions ignorant / rude people out and about.

The Denver - Westminster canoe race seemed to be pretty intense this afternoon too. We constantly felt we were in the way and we heard reports that an enthusiastic spectator had got a bit abusive with the lock-keeper at Romney Lock and he'd disappeared.

No need for it - the whole thing is supposed to be relaxing after all....

Anyway - here's to nicer weather!

Christ, I thought you were going to say 'because No Regrets was seen out...' /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Despite a lovely Wednesday, a lot of the helming from our week out was done from inside /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Still, a few magic moments!

I am more than usually amazed about how fast peeps are going, even on boats that look as if their owners know better.

Could be the weather and they just want to get to their destination (taxi?) but it is very much Spring and I predict a lot of river bird omelette...

The spectator or the lock-keeper? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Welcome to the forum BTW.

We saw a few large cruisers being hoofed out of Lockstreams a bit fast, one was 'Teddy Two' which looked like it was attempting to overtake a barge coming out of Bray, upstream, but abandoned the move when he saw us coming, but still left a huge wake which nearly turned rowing boats upside down, and gawd knows how much Crockery was left in the other nearby vessels! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

What a pratt...

I quite admit to getting a move on today, as I had to get from Sonning to Bray, and to work this evening, but left my high speed stuff for wide empty stretches, and that was 7mph downstream according to GPS, so probably under 6mph allowing for the stream.

And still less wash than the Rowing Boats chaperones /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The only omelettes were in our saloon! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A helluva lot of Rental boats out though /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Other than the comments from the other camp who took the p1ss out of us for 'Not going far enough, Sure! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Given the weather, that was sound advice, and thanks as always.

It would have been nice to see the final bridge (For us!) but nothing looked that great to be honest, even Cliveden looked a bit bare and grey /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The BCC evening was great, nice company as always, but so little time. Can't wait for the tVR when I haven't got work the day after.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We had a great day yesterday. We took Shikara +6 20somethings up to Windsor. It was a real balancing act as she is only 24ft. But we did it. We came back alone as they got stuck in a pub... and, oddly, we beat them back (they came by train and did not have to do locks themselves)

Well I braved the weather and headed upstream to Molsey and I have to say each and every canoeist (and there were a lot) smiled and even apologised for being on the wrong side of the river.

The only people who did not wave that we saw yesterday looked like they belong to the Westwood owners club (there were four Westwoods together) so I am outing them they (all four of them) get the award for being most miserable on the river yesterday...

Lets see what today holds at the top of the tide...

We got so far over to avoid them we were in the trees (going up to Sonning). Even then I was amazed to find a canoeist between the bank & "Carli".

We cheered them all on though!

We had a canoe turn up at 0630 today , with a pair in it , the (very tired ) woman asked me what time the tide was ...

I told her 0600 and asked her where they were going , she said Westminster , i then asked her where they had come from , she said Devizes ...

I said , 'Bit late aren't you ' ....

She says .... ' We read the start date wrong on the entry form , and was out by 24 hours , we've trained all year for this , and there's no way were not doing it '

And off they went .... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Prize for the 'Greenest Boat of the Day' goes to Mr Shead .... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Don't know if its the weather or not but why wont anyone wave anymore?

Coming back down river yesterday, I gave a friendly wave to almost every boat that past us and with the exception of a certain B25 owning forum member I saw at Marlow and two narrow boats they all ignored me!

We saw you but didn't get chance to wave. Would have done if we'd have seen you sooner. Sorry /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

No problem, I was thinking more of those who stare at you as if you've got two heads or something when all you're doing is being polite and waving at them...

I thought it was just me (and could understand that), thought it might even be jealousy when they are passing a classic cruiser like a broom (certainly noticed it more since we bought it), now it seems its happening to anyone??

Maybe knowing me is enough to mean you dont get a wave...

Now,,, back to my beer sitting here in the sun in bruges!!!!
