Friday: arrive at club, unmoor from buoy and move to pontoon. It's raining so exterior cleaning is out, fix seized jockey pulley on port engine, works fine and belt now at sensible tension and not rubbing away. Result! Launch tender and can't find kill cord, mental note to search carefully. Despite not having been run since August 2008 engne starts first pull. Result. Discover port batteries moribund:-( Large scoff and then drinks on another boat.
Saturday, buy ply and bits to make new galley area round sinks. Pouring down so that gets abandoned. Sulk and drink beer.
Sunday. Need clean boat for Monday with parents and some nieces wanting a day out. Pressure washer, mop and scrub hull, decks and as much canopy as I can reach with it on. Heather, bless her, makes the bridge look like a bridge and not a dumping ground for discarded refuse and dead insects. White vinyl is white again. I get soaked by rain and clenaing process but boat is cleaner, needs a polish now. Non starting engine checled more carefully, starte turns very slowly but seems to have full volts, think we may be looking at a pro here:-(
Monday. Sunny and warm, clean boat. Genlte run down to Kingston and a moderately unexciting pie at The Ram, with a very good pint of Doom Bar. Small neices don't eat interesting food so stuck with pub but hey, a free lunch is never bad. Spent the night on King's Lawn as too idle to move back after dropping off guests.
Tuesday. Spotted Oudrageous moored not far away, wish I'd been more observant the evening before, as opposed to burying myself in a book. Wowed a club member by gliding the width of the river back to the trot mooring, on one engine and not moving up or down the river by very much. Home and trying to do the galley with scrappy measurements here.
A draw on the whole, but weather is still leading the series:-(
