The ICC doesnt want to cancel the tour because they might get sued, and the Govt doesnt want to tell the team not to go for exactly the same reason. So money rules. But then that is normal. If we didnt have commercial relationships (which is what a cricket tour is) with non democratic and oppressive regimes, we wouldnt have relationships with very many, and we wouldnt be very reliable partners changing policy everytime there was or wasnt an election.
And as for troops to Southern Rhodesia - that would look like "rescuing kith and kin" which would be very non PC and racist. There is no equivalence between sanctions against South Africa and any proposal to do the same against Rhodesia. Leaving aside the fact that non of the black African nations would support such a move, Mugabe is discriminating against white settlers not the other way round.
Do you think there is any link between the ECB and the Grand Old Duke of York?
<hr width=100% size=1>this post is a personal opinion, and you should not base your actions on it.
I may be wrong, but is the cricket team not being paid to go out there? I cant think of any other reason they would do this. Or are they thinking that they will help Zimbabwean cricket? I think not.
<Mugabe is discriminating against white settlers not the other way round>
i'm afraid you're way behind the times. the issue has little to do with white farmers, it's about the fact that mugabe's men are diverting the little available food to their own supporters and staving political opponents and in particular members of the minority ndebele tribe.
Ah, but see, the actual tour team comprises me and 21 other mates with outsized moustaches from down the pub as teh England "Z" team, so it's actually a massive poltical insult. The first thre hours will be taken up in me asking for a guard to three decimal places includin complaints about the pitch and other things, then lunch, then a couple of overs, then extended tea with lots of cake, a chat about sharks with Sir G, and several streakers.
