Hi Alex,
Your name rings a bell, did you used to work at Berthons in Lymington, if so then we met when I was looking at various options before deciding on the Hylas. Thanks for the offer to assist with help from the manufacturer side, i have a contact email for Jane Cheng at hylas yachts which i obtained via the Hylas owners association. Is this the correct person to ask questions contact with questions / queries ?

Definitely me, the neighbouring boat is a long term project, one of those jobs the yard drops onto when they have time to spare which is in line with what the owner wants to keep costs down and he is apparently in no rush. Will be very nice when finished though.

Hi Tony. Yes that's me, After 15yrs at Berthon, I left at the beginning of this year to start my own brokerage business based here in Lymington.

HI Alex,
I was looking the the Hylas 46 with the red hull and the Premier 41 in late 2014 / early 2015 at Berthons and fairly sure I met you at the time.
Good luck with the new venture, in my opinion (bias obviously) Hylas are one of the best yachts around. Thanks for the kind offer to provide help if I need anything from Hylas. I am camping out on the boat over Christmas / new year in the shed updating the electrical systems and renewing the black water, grey water and fuel hoses and systems. I understand the new decks are almost finished, just the cockpit left so i will post some updates when in get time (and wifi)

We had a great time refitting our Oyster 406 with Barry, Paul and Andrew. Craftsman of their like are hard to find. Pics of the finished deck and our saloon table they took from a basic table to a work of art. They said they would never do such intricate inlay again but I think it is a bit like child birth. They will get over it!

Hi All,
It has been a while since the last update and Barry and the team at TLC have made good progress with the teak decks and have now started on the interior works. On my last post about the decks the setting out was just started so quite a few pictures to get up to date:
1) side deck done
2) Other side deck
3) Foredeck caulked and ready for windless
4) Finishing around front hatch
I much prefer this to the original edging which can be seen on the picture below
5) Rear Deck
I am very happy with the work so far and will update the thread in the next few days with some more progress

Excellent thread and great work by your yard. Is there any reason you had the rounded corners to the front hatch, which look fab, but square round the aft lazarette?

Agree really good thread with great pictures.
Re the square aft lazarette pics, it's probably because the aft locker lids have what appear to be straight sides and corners? It looks like the inner raised part to the channel is the only bit that has radiused corners.

What a truly fantastic deck. I keep pretending that the only reason we haven't put a teak deck on (which some of our class have) is because it would weigh us down. The truth is I don't have the pockets to fund it - but those photos could turn the weak ;-)

yes the aft locker lids have square corners on the lids so it was not possible to make these curved.

Congratulations on buy you Hylas, I can assure you, you made a great decision. Having spent the last 4 years living & working on Maya, time and time again I am so impressed by the quality & detail that went into theses wonderful boats. Your decks look fantastic, many years of pleasure there. Whilst we were living on Maya in London before we left we found the decks went a little green, but that soon disappears once the sea water does its work. We are currently in Turkey and I've spent the last 5 mths with Maya on the hard, hard at work inside & out. I tool the opportunity of the fabulous weather here to take her back to the Gel coat to see if there was an osmosis blistering & it seemed like the ideal opportunity to let her dry out for a year before epoxy barrier coating her. Well the very good news was that not only is there no sign of any blisters, but that moisture readings were very low. The only place I had any raised readings was around the freezer, which I believe was some moisture in the isolation of the freezer being read through the hull, which is now also dry. So I will give the summer to bake in 40oC and then epoxy her in October/November when it cools down here.
Inside I have renewed all the furniture & head liners, I've changed all the lighting to LED spots through out. If you are thinking of going down this route I can only recommend you figure out a way on getting the guys out here to do it. The company I am using here on Fethite have charged me just over £1000 for all newly foamed & Sunbrella covered furniture (chart table, saloon & aft cushions), and the head liner. We had a quote of over £3000 for the furniture in the UK. I also got the guys do make the walls in the fore peak out of the same stuff, look great. I'll send you some pics when it's finished finished. All the cabin soles have also been varnished, 10 coats of Ephiphanes gloss & 2 polyurethane on top. I also did away with the table legs and guy two great guys to make we a beautiful mast clamp, which can be raised when we don't want the table, and lowered when we want the table or bed. I'm particularly fond of this, and if you want wanted one I could procure you one as the guys have Maya as a template. It's cost we an eye watering £200.
Let me know if I can help in anyway. We are heading back to the Uk to give the kids some land time end of March buy Maya will stay out here and we shall visit frequently. If you need bits think about Turkey 4-1 goes alone way....

Thanks for your message, when we bought Christy the moisture readings in the hull were very high but i dont think she had been out of the water for quiet a few years (or even moved). There were also some very minor blisters in a couple of places. We had the gel coat removed (actually turned out that she had already been peeled once) and within a couple of days the moisture readings were very low (even with the welsh weather). She is presently having the new epoxy applied followed by coppercoat.
we have removed most of the headlinings already in preparation for the teak deck to be removed / replaced so I have purchased the new headliner and will recover the panels myself over the next couple of months, the plan is also to put LED lights all the way through. Which ones have you gone for and how many per cabin, etc ? I am not really sure of the layout / numbers at the moment.
The idea you have for the table sounds very interesting, do you have some pictures of the support / table ?

Image sell recall high quality LED lights for boats. We fitted the Sextans S to our boat, but they are too white for my liking. Their "Warm White" is 3200K and I much prefer 2700K. I have asked them if they can supply 2700K and they said that they could as a special order buy the lead time was quite long, but as I had already replaced all my lights I just live with them.

and then instead of fitting halogen lamps I have fitted a Philips G4 LED in 2700K which is perfect but they have discontinued them. I am going to test out some other brands to see which have the best colour rendering:-
