Hurricane Melissa.

Absolutely. God help them.

  • The storm has already been blamed for three deaths in Jamaica, and four deaths in Haiti and the Dominican Republic
  • Forecasters believe it could become the strongest hurricane ever to hit Jamaica, with winds of 175mph (282km/h) and as much as 101cm (40 inches) of rain
Live updates: Hurricane Melissa to make landfall in Jamaica

As for this, why are they there? Surely they should have known it wasn't a good time to be there?
Rebecca Chapman, in Jamaica for her 25th wedding anniversary, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme she and her familyarrived on Thursday evening - just as preparations for the storm began.

She's staying with her husband and three teenage sons in Lucea, about 30 minutes from Montego Bay, in a hotel that's spread out across the coastline.

Gonna wack Jamaica with 150 knot winds and biblical rain.

I can't begin to imagine what that will be like....

Whatever you God is, I hope you get through this extraordinary event. đź«°
I hwve been watching a bit of the reporting. These people don't seem to hwve any idea what is about to happen. The total carnage in the path of a slow moving cat 5 will destroy everything.

I was in the BVI after Irma and Maria hit - two cat 5's a month apart. Until you've seen a 300 ton steel catamaran ferry in trees 100 yards in shore and an entire road , perfect un-cracked tarmac half a mile long, just lifted up and deposited 500m inshore of where it started, you can't believe what these things can do. :(

Just horrid. Before . During . And then the logistics afterwards .
🙏
There may be old, old houses built with topographical Jamaica anomalies -location location- that have been proved to deflect the full brunt of the wind from the house for certain wind directions at a certain time.
Hurricanes . Ugh it’s all so precarious
