Have friends on the boat in Horta, duringthe night they recorded gusting in the high 70kt, another boat mentions 115kt.
Overall no major damages in the marina, whereas the port of the western islands Corvo and above all Flores have been destroyed

Heard a Radio 5 weatherman say today "don't worry, it's not a hurricane coming our way" I suspect Michael Fish will be happy

Actually he’s probably right, just sounded a bit like the infamous Fish remark.

Left Sao Miguel yesterday (by plane), by good luck rather than planning. It was on the edge, so tropical storm winds, rather than full hurricane, but amazing that around 12 hours ahead of the hurricane arriving the weather was normal. Beautiful island
