Hunton ... Sad News

From JFM
There are or have been two XRS43s called speedbird. The first one, 2012, had Merc 625hp racing engines. Black hull.

It had merc 662engines, went out in it from Cannes when it was their show boat, Merc didn't make a 625 as far as I'm aware.

My mistake sorry - it had 600sci mercs. This boat I'm referring to is the black 2012 speedbird (black caulking; walnut interior; black deck mould as well as hull; http://www.hunton.co.uk/media/2012/12/Hunton_XRS43_offer_dec2012.pdf). It's a different boat from the merc662 Cannes boat. It's also a different boat from the 2015 xrs43 also called speedbird (yanmars, black deck mould as well as hull; grey oak interior, light grey caulk) that I know very well.

This is the boat as of last week
Utterly beautiful vessel, and with an impressively clean engine compartment, congratulations! :encouragement:

You said she's the fastest ever built (and 80+ mph on the water is indeed FAST!), but I half recall to have read about a Hunton powered by V10 Ilmor 700 with Indy outdrives - am I dreaming of it, or what?
If she does exist, I suppose she's bound to be similarly fast, if not a tad more...

That was Peter Unwin's other 37 carbon cheater not sure it has hit the water yet. When it does it will be the fastest.
Best get me skates on and get this back to the UK

Engine bay and boat is mint apart from the odd scratch that can be rectified.

that was a 1 off carbon fibre 39 foot Hunton , do not think Peter has finished it and I believe the engines are now going in Cinzano that he is restoring, however his Hunton 37 with the front wing is currently doing just less than 80mph on diesel volvos

I'm shocked I thought that wing was adding 10mph

LOL, that would be a nice match for wearing a Fountain golden medallion, which is also known to add 10mph...

Understood ref. that Ilmor powered boat, but actually you might have more room for further speed increase, compared to a 700hp NA engine - though I love the V10 screaming sound, and I've yet to hear a V8 matching it!
In fact, I know a chap on the other side of the Pond who converted his 700SCi engines (which afaik are essentially the same as your 662, which was slightly detuned to comply with CE/RCD rules) to the 850SCi, and also for not much money.
Unless you've got NXT drives (can't see in your pic), because IIRC those can't handle the torque and power of the 850, so you should also swap them for the #6, which adds a lot to the bill, obviously.
Besides, you would end with a non-CE compliant boat (potentially hard to sell), and probably also your insurer could argue with that...
But the life of speedboat lovers ain't a bed of roses, as you surely know! :encouragement:

Sorry MapisM missed your reply. I'm very happy with the 662 engines upping the HP sounds like a lot of money and possible grief.

And now she's on her way homeHunton43 Four.jpgHunton43 one.jpg
