A 55 second film, and 54 seconds were dark. They couldn't sell me a boat

Dark for a good reason. It's fugly... and they haven't produced anything tangible.

Maybe someone from hunton would like to confirm how many boats they sold on their last expensive jolly into the us market....

That is an easy 1 anyone could answer - NIL

Do you honestly think those are nice websites. I hate sites like that.
All hype, lifestyle type rubbish or squit as my old dad would have said designed to caress ego's , Bit like having little logo's on the right hand top side of thin jumpers

If I open a site like that I immediately look for the x button to shut it down

Shame you did not proceed further as there is some very interesting information of the Magnum brand history which may have incouraged you to research the earlier owners development of future renowned brands.

Exactley ---- the history and depth of range very evident for Fiona,s target market -American to quote her "high net worth "
They allready do two modals either side of the proposed 55 .
All Arneson high speed hulls .

it just feels to me a big leap for Hunton from 6 L powerd 43 ft arneson -and 5-5 L Vp outdrives to where these guys are right now !-

Otam ,is a bit left of field -small bespoke IT builder ,superb fit n finish .I went on a 58 HT a couple of years back ,well impressed with the build .
Thing they both have in common , is they are not makers of plastic fantastic fly bridge ,cum semi appartments .
They both are long established open muscle boat makers -emphasis on performance peddling a past racing history .
This exactley what the competition is for that H 55
You could and folks do overnight ,but this demograph of buyer may allready have a small super yacht and one of these is a chase boat ,somthing for Mr to play with sans crew .Or a suitable land based villa and it's just a toy for nice days and high days , time permitted .
Nobodies gonna buy one of the above with a growing family to keep it in the Baldricks and juggle work leave and school hols ,and live aboard for 2 week stints in a marina for 80 % of the time .
That's a different market to Hunton 55 , Magnums and Otams , and those buyers have a different mind set .

Fairenuff, but if your reaction to Magnum and Otam websites is anything to go by, what do you do when you open a webpage with a video like the one Ian h linked?
You must shoot the screen with a machine gun, I suppose.

Imho, Portofino was spot on with his comparison.
With all due respect, thinking that Hunton (both as a brand image and technically) could compete with well established builders of big, luxurious and fast toys like Magnum and Otam - not to mention even faster stuff, like Nortech, MTI, DCB etc. - is pure madness.
All of these builders are still struggling with a market which is a tiny fraction of what it used to be, in spite of their excellent brand recognition, and of their fantastic boats, tried and tested, which they are ready to build as soon as someone signs the dotted line.

Not sure if it takes more arrogance, ignorance or sheer optimism, to hope to get even just the crumbs of this pie.
Probably all of that. :ambivalence:

Spot on.... im glad its not my money they are looking to pour into that hole.

Ian, no, also they took a black XRS43 called Speedbird, the one mentioned in the email you quoted above, and it's still in USA. Been there nearly 2 years. I know it well and have driven it.

That was a fast boat when launched had a trip out doing 75mph , originally fitted with twin mercury 625 race engines, it was sold to an American a couple of years ago, think it was re-engined though , guess it's back up for sale again, I have couple of videos some where

There are or have been two XRS43s called speedbird. The first one, 2012, had Merc 625hp racing engines. Black hull. That's obviously the one you're referring to.

The second one was 2015 and also had a black hull, but it had light grey deck caulk not black and it had a black bimini. It was built with Yanmar 370s and joystick, and still has them. Currently in USA, New England area; was in St Tropez in its first season which is where I drove it. That is the boat referred to in the Hunton email that you quote above

Was that 2015 one exhibited at Cannes ?
If so did you notice the vertical ripples in the hull mostly the middle 1/3 rd .
Not being derogatory in any way ,just as a potential customer back then it was on the same finger as Otam who displayed a black boat which looked like it was hewn out of a solid granite .
From memory the two big French boat makers were either side of the Hunton .They too had solid ripple less hulls, but 1/2 the price and folks crawling over them -understandably.

The Perspex info thingy from memory near the Hunton said £500 K can,t remember if that was before or after Tax
Never saw a soul on it .

Med wise- more so in St Trop --folks want IMHO a bigger bathing platform to sit on and plenty of sun pad area to zonk out on ,without interferring with each others personsl space along with a big table for lunch
that easily accommodates pref 8 pax ,but deffo 6 pax and all the paraphernalia that a proper lunch needs .
Ideally under a Binimi .

I can imagine the lack of the above on the Hunton 43 will make it hard to live with day to day .

I note on the H 55 rendering tiny bathing platform ---agian .

Performance wise the St Trop set - just stick to that -performance and get a Lamboghini engined Cigarette or tripple Merc -magmum 1050 hp Donzi 43 or something .

This comes with compromises ------

You hear them before seeing them .----when they anchor up the 4 or 6 pax have no place to sunbath all at once and climb awardkly in /out of the water dodging the stern gear .
You also hear the engines tending to over rev in a chop and see them getting sprayed in a confused sea .
Nice !

This is the sort of thing I mean and it's enviroment ,

So I,am trying really hard to find -profile buyers for Huntons 43 on the proposed H55 .--well in the Med a market not to pamper to ? Ask them ,the customer what they want listen to them and build it !
In the State s the market is saturated my home brands of muscle boats unaffected by £/$ Fx

Yup to all that. Huntons are impressive but arguably fall between too stools - not an uber fast boat, which can be seen on the statistics, and also not a great loafing boat because its designer seems just not to get lunching and sunbathing. A boat that does both those things well might be great but a boat that does both half-heartedly will have limited appeal.

Ok stand corrected did. Of know there were 2 with the same name ,

Interesting that some say on here that its not a quick boat so I thought it only right to bring back to the UK the fastest one ever built
