In The land of no-hunts
Here in Baltic's they do not ride to hunt ..... they go out and shoot.
Many do not have interest to shoot fox's as there are too many of them and not so much sport to hunt and get 'em.
So end result is there are loads of fox's out here and every night loads get maimed / injured / killed on the roads. I myself have hit loads of 'em - they just dart across the road in front of you .... last one lost his tail on my front bumper - couldn't find him to finish him off .... so he must have died a slow death.
I am not pro- or anti- hunt - but feel that laws to prevent hunting may be counter-productive in terms of controlling the fox's. (Hare coursing was a different matter - that was despicable and quite rightly was banned .......)
I don't think anyone knows the real answer till time has passed and observations prove one way or another.
One point I would like to make though .... having grown up around Hunt areas and with the sound of the hounds etc. I did object and I know that many farmers objected to the cavalier attitude of many Hunts where they would ride over fences and ground etc. without apparent concern for the farmer and his livelihood. One particular famous Hunt in a southern county was so arrogant that it alienated the village community and the local pub refused to have them there to have their tot before galloping off etc. The assembly at the pub had been for hundreds of years .... a tradition broken by their own arrogance.
Another hunt was blocking traffic while they crosed a busy sussex road .... no problem .... traffic was allowed to go in stages and horses etc. crossed inbetween bunches of cars. I waited for my turn to drive through. One of the Hunt on a beautiful large horse decided that he was not going to wait and caused me to slam on the brakes ...... even though I had been waved through by the Hunt ..... the rider proceeded to 'flick' his crop against my door window hard ..... unfortunately the window was open and the crop flicked across my face narrowly missing my eyes. Needless to say I stopped to have words with the Hunt guy directing traffic ..... what happened ?? Nothing .......
