We are going to look at a Hunter Medina in the next couple of weeks. Any one got any info or views? (I have done a search on the forum and google any other comments / advice would be appreciated).

Thanks

I bought one this summer - after looking for some time. So far, I am very pleased with it. I needed something which I could move by car, but be a reasonable size for 3 people. The boat is quite a weight to tow (by car), and I would not want to tow anything much heavier. On its trailer, the towing weight is close to 1.5 tonnes.

Sail performance is quite lively, and I like the lifting keel - as an ex dinghy sailor. With the keel up, it only draws 10 inches. There are two good articles in PBO about it, which are worth reading.

My Medina has a launching trolley on the trailer (like a dinghy), so launching was quite easy - But remember that it weighs close on a tonne, so take care! The winch handle must be held tightly to ensure a controlled descent - a second person controlling an extra line comes in handy here. Getting it out of the water was OK, but it took a while to manoever the boat + trolley onto the trailer. We had a concrete ramp to use, with little cross current. I would not like to launch/recover it on a shingle beach.

We used 3 people to take down the mast. Could be done with 2 , but that extra pair of hands is useful - to ensure no damage to boat or mast. I have yet to put the mast up.

The web site www.trail-sail.org.uk has some useful information on towing etc.

Thanks very much - we have arranged to go and have a look on Saturday, so hopefully we will like what we see.

Best wishes
