Can anyone give me a clue about the construction of the Horizon engine bearers please? I've taken the old engine and mounts out, and I've found what seems to be well-stuck but I don't think bonded nuts under thick GRP... but because I can't access the other side I can't really tell. I also can't tell what backing is there.

I'm trying to work out how best to attach the new mounts for the new engine - if necessary I'll cut some access in the side of the engine tray so I can get underneath the bearer and see - but it would be nice not to need to!

Might be worth contacting Lauren Marine. They took over the manufacture of the current range of UK Hunter boats when Select Yachts went bust. They will at least know what they inheritited from Hunter/Select and it may be the Horizon is the same as the current range. Worth an email.

Are you a member of the Hunter Association. If not, and you still draw a blank, I'll post the question on the Association forum for you and see if I get any replies.

Just found this on the HA forum

If you can't access it let me know and I'll copy it and send it too you. Concerns a re-engine on a Horizon

This is going back maybe 20 years to when I put an inboard into my Hunter 26 to replace the carp Honda outboard in a locker. I found that the bearers were solid enough for me to drill and then tap to take machine screws. I certainly didnt cut the side to get nuts in underneath - the bit I am less sure of is whether I tapped or used stainless coach bolts. Either way, no problems in the years I had her.

Thanks for that. I followed the hunter link (I am a member) and it was very useful. I'm going to modify and replicate that approach. I didn't check the Hunter forum up front just because it seems a little dead :(

Glad the link helped. I know what you mean about the HA forum but I have found it very useful for Hunter specific questions, either posting myself or by looking back over past posts. I certainly look at it daily just to see if there are any new posts and I am aware of others who do the same and are very knowledgeable about Hunter boats. Good luck with the re-engine.
