I need some advice. My GRP hull, above the waterline, is scraped and scuffed, some of the paint is splitting/peeling and it looks a bit of a mess. It was previously painted (last time was about 17 years ago) with some type of 2-part polyester paint. My options are, I think:
a) Have it professionally repainted
b) Repaint it myself with 2-part
c) Have it wrapped

Professional repainting would be very expensive, I currently lack the skills to do a decent d-i-y job and am not sure how I could acquire said skills.

Are there any other options?

I guess the prep is pretty much the same whichever option you choose, you could at least DIY that assuming you have the physical ability and the time available. Then it depends how good a finish you want, what's the boat?

Painting is not difficult, plenty of videos on youtube, sand, fill and fair smooth, then apply paint, why not start by just doing the transom and see how you get on?

Take a look at Boatworkstoday on youtube, Andy is sure to have a video which will cover any stage of painting..

I have seen very good results with this one pot paint. International
I used this 2 pack from SML. They are very helpful if you need advice and reasonably priced.
On my 50 year old boat I was not after perfection but wanted a durable finish that would look good from 10 feet away.

I have painted two boats with a brush.

One a wooden 16 footer, one a 24 foot yacht in GRP.

The yacht, painted 20 years ago, still looks good when cleaned.

The current owner does neglect it so :(

We painted our previous boat with 2 pack paint. The current one has had proffessional spray painting. All the work is in the prep. You might be able to prep yourself. Get a proffesional to spray paint.

I actually did my transom because it was a bit of a state. I was surprised how easy it was and how much better it looked when done. I'll probably do the rest of the hull one day.

I painted my little boat many years ago witha 2 pack polyurethane white. I just used a brush over GRP. Not show room finsih but still OK. The beauty of it all is that I can and do touch up the paint scratches etc each winter. So on the one hand it does not stand up to close scrutiny it never looks bad. As said much depends on value of boat and what you demand by way of perfection. ol'will
