I have a problem tonight with my Hudl. Everything has slowed down, even as I'm typing this every letter takes a few seconds to appear on the screen. It is a Hudl 2. I have tried deleting lots of downloads but it made no difference. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Clearing the cache worked for me. Turn it right off. Then hold down the power button and the volume plus together until "Android" appears on the screen. A text menu then appears, use the volume to scroll down to "clear cache" and enter it with a touch on the power button. After it's done it you'll be back on the same menu. Then select and enter "reboot ".

Many thanks, I've just done that and it seems to have worked. Another success for the forum.

Fortunately I have not so far found any need for such a drastic approach. However, please tell from where this intriguing information originates?

Had read this threat & pushed to back of mind, cos I regularly clear cache by other means.
However, tonight had a similar freezing on this site & used the clear cache method posted on here.
Brilliant, back to normal speed.

PS, is there a way of doing this on a hudl 1?
Tried power/volume method, but doesn't seem to work.

I tried to update my Hudl2 to version 5.1 Lollipop, but I get a message saying my Hudl is up to date, so I posted a question on the Tesco Tech website.

"When I go to updates and press check for updates, my Hudl 2 returns, hudl is up to date, last updated 4th June.
But the Android version shows as 4.4.2
How do I get it to update to version 5.1?"

This is the reply I got by email:

"Thank you for your recent e-mail.

The update to 5.1 is being rolled out in phases across hudl users, to ensure that the update is taken

At present your device is not eligible for the update but as devices are added in phases it is likely yours will be eligible within the next couple of weeks as we continue to support the software upgrade.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused."

So Lollipop isn't available to everyone, yet!

I can understand the need/desire to stagger updates. However it would be fascinating to know the criteria used to determine when a particular device gets offered an update. Manufacture date? Serial Number? Date first put into service? How often you shop online at Tesco? :D (can't be the last because I've already received the update!!).

Same of course applies to all 'pushed' computer updates.

Like Fantasie19, mine updated faultlessly, and I quite like the new 'presentation' ..... now that I have changed the keyboard back to black. Only problem is that my other (very cheap) tablet is very unlikely to ever update from KitKat ..... so I have to remember two slightly different interfaces.

Edit: Have you noticed the astronomic prices that HUDL2 are now fetching on EBAY? £160-180 seems normal for a new one. Over £100 for a used. And up to £65 for not-working/damaged

Major updates to my Nexus 7 were also staggered. It was said that Google defined how many they would update each day - starting with a few and increasing the numbers once it was evident there were no major problems. Once the daily quota was met no more were sent, so there was no point keep tapping 'check for updates'.
