How's Easter cruising going?

The early Easter put me off arranging a trip for MYC Cruiser Class members, the lack of boats in the water and the risk of unkind weather was the reasoning. However I made plans to get away with my daughter, Queenborough would be fine if rough weather, worst case scenario!

We've made it from Chatham MDL to the MYC club pontoon (1/2 a mile tops) and currently have a heads full of wet gear drying...

How are the ECF members getting on this weekend?

I am going out on Sunday..... about 500 yards up the river to my new berth for a short while before a lift out and a little bit of exterior works ready for May time when the fun starts!

Due to wind and snow we've been waiting for the last eight weeks for the mast to be lifted out for new rigging, so not too unhappy looking out at the rain and fitting the new kitchen. Crusing will start in another month, wind and cranes per!itting.

Awaiting standing rigging replacement and then do the anti fouling, after these, the boat can go back in the water. The rest of this year’s jobs can be done afloat. But all this rain does not help.

When is proper spring supposed to start?

We had a lovely day sail on Thursday. Its been or forecast to be raining a bit too much for the rest of the weekend, so we are getting stuff ready for setting off on our big summer cruise in a few weeks time.

I hate sailing in the rain, so try to avoid it.

However SWMBO, who does not sail, has been getting me doing renovations to the utility room and decorating the kitchen as well. Gaining browny points for going sailing. Roll on the warmer dryer weather.

The weather’s been so poxy for so long that there’s been no incentive at all to do stuff. I did some rewiring after Christmas and left the interior very messy but as far as working on the hull is concerned, its been a non starter. No sign of it changing for a week, either,

Have to do some work this weekend. Last week single handed Horning to Acle, dropped mast (Cornish Crabber) through Yarmouth/Breydon Water next day, got to Oulton Dyke & put mast up, bent sails etc. Saturday through Mutford Lock, road and railway bridges, spent the night at Lowestoft Haven marina. Sunday through Carlton Rd lift bridge at 9.45, out to sea just gone 10am. LW should have been about then but I didn't see the flood for about a hour. Misty conditions, then fog down to 1/2 mile (at best) visibility, motored whole way to Walton Backwaters & got in about 7pm just as tide turning against me. No boating this weekend.

Just cruised back along the French motorways from the Alps - best snow in 20 years at this time of the year. The view for those on the ground floor of the apartment block was just of a wall of snow 10 feet deep ! Will be re-launched when it's regularly 18 degrees ?

Just re-launched today, and the heavy rain forecast stayed away. Made it all the way from the Lower Halstow slip to the other side of the jetty. As the crow flies about 40ft, but I did a short loop, probably not more than 400m to tie up for the night so I can assist with more lifts tomorrow and then home to get on with some decorating while SHMBO is away lambing on our friends farm.

True Bank Holiday weather. Real brass monkeys stuff. Nipped round to (a deserted) Ramsgate on Easter Sunday https://allatseawithstargazer.blogspot.co.uk/. Sun seems to be coming out to play now - very pleasant, tucked under the harbour wall.

It may have been Easter but the UK sailing season has barely started. Travelled from Titchmarsh to Bridgemarsh yesterday and only saw only one other boat underway. Who decided to have Easter so early this year?

Left Penzance end of march, round the lizard to coverack cove.
Coverack to salcombe, day hiding from weather, salcombe to Weymouth round outside of Portland bill and shambles.
Much preferred Weymouth to salcombe! 3 days hiding from weather, then Weymouth to Yarmouth. Yarmouth to cowes to try and get autopilot fixed, bounced off a boat and pontoon trying to dock in f6 gusts, need more practise!
Cowes to Eastbourne, what a WEIRD place! ( sovereign harbour not Eastbourne, it's about 3 miles away! )
Eastbourne to Dover cos found out enroute that rye couldn't take us, neaps and dredging. Prob short hop to ramsgate tomorrow, as I'm tired and don't want to come up the Thames exhausted and figuring stuff out on the hoof. Even tho it's tempting just to head off at 7am for Leigh! Then last leg, hopefully, tue. ramsgate to Leigh or canvey, to wait a handful of days, before going up Benfleet creek nearer springs to be hauled out.
