Put it into gear, make sure the engine stops are deployed, turn the engine over exactly one revolution on the crankshaft nut and see how far the props tuns. It's a reduction gear so they should turn less than one full revolution. The difference between 1.78 and 2.30 should be very obvious. Alternatively turn the engine over until the props have turned exactly one revolution. How many revolutions of the engine did it take? One and three quarters? Nearly two? More than two? There's your answer.
Theoretically your drive serial numbers or easier the product numbers should tell any VP dealer what ratio they left the factory with but as the reduction gear is built into the lower unit this only works if you know that the lower units are the original ones fitted
So counting as Neale suggests may be required but not that easy with the injectors in and removing injectors is troublesome
