How to strengthen deck mountings?

Can anyone advise the best method of strengthening the GRP deck for mounting an "A" Frame.
Options I have considered are:
1. Fit a stainless steel backing plate fixed with Sikaflex and bolted through to frame.
2. Fiber glass a plywood section under the deck and bolt through that.

Any other suggestions?

Consider Garolite sheet. It's an epoxy impregnated glass board. Tough as old boots and will bond well to your exisiting substrate. Stick it with Spabond.

Either of your suggestions will work. The plywood is the easier one to do, but it does look worse if not inside a locker. The stainless steel pad is good if there is minimal clearance under the side deck, but you will have to be accurate on your measurements to ensure a good fit. I would suggest using 3mm plate as a minimum and spread as wide as practable and at least 4" (100mm) on any flat surface, e.g. not the deck edge side.

My advice, Avoid timber of any kind. it rots or provides a home for something you do not want on board.

A simple backing plate of 316 stainless or aluminum suitably insulated from fixings will last a lifetime.

Points to remember.
Always use only well rounded corners, also round off the top and bottom of any backing plate.

If you think you may have to remove it at some time in the future, lay some thin plastic sheeting first, the put enough resin and micro-fibers mix on top of the backing plate and fix it, but leave the fixings finger tight till fully cured then nip up.
