I have unfortunately been droped in it by my ex, leaving me with 2 powerboats to pay for each month and although they are both on brokerage with a dealer in North Wales, am so far having no success.

Obviously I want to maximise the money I get to pay off the loans but also want to get rid of them fairly sharpish...

Any bright ideas on where/how would be the best way to sell them both sharpish?

Try advertising free here and maybe consider moving boats to somewhere a little more accessible such as Southampton/S coast area.

I only know of one broker/dealer that buys for cash http://www.Essexboatyards.com although there may be others. Check the adds in MBY.

Don't know how quickly you want to shift the boats, but something I would recommend is to:-

1. Create a few web pages with good descriptions and lots of good pictures of your boats. Be honest with the descriptions though or everyones time is wasted.
2. Put an small (smaller means cheaper!) advert in Boats & Yachts for sale with the web address.
3. Prepare for loads of enquiries.

Works for me every time and people will travel if they like what they see.

If putting a few web pages together is a problem for you, just ask around to get a mate to do it as a favour., or just pay someone to do it. It's actually dead easy to create a web site for your purposes.

All in all you will save a fortune over (often useless) brokers fees. Also make sure that your existing agreement with your broker won't still charge you for selling the boats via your own efforts.

All the best.

sorry to hear the woes.
its human nature that when we buy a boat we always think the asking price is too high, but when selling that the price is about right. While understanding your desire to offload quickly, I m afraid that means you are almost certain to have to offer the boats below what appears to be the market price in order for the buyer to choose to look at your boat over another. The ugly truth is that you can only realise what someone will pay for them, and perhaps not what they are worth. But its a good time of the year, with the season starting, and the economy is supposed to be good. Personally, i think there is value in a decent advert in the back of he mags...As the old selling adage goes "create the need"- you need to get coverage beyong those looking for specifically that boat, and get the interest of others too.
But good luck...

A trade sale for 70% might seem crap but when you compare it to a brokergae sale:-

e.g. boat on for £10,000
knock off the customary 10% reduction = £9000
knock off brokerage fees of 8% (+VAT) £8150 in your pocket.

So you can hang around for £8150 or take £7000 cash.

Anyway, if you want someone to knock up a web page for you let me know. I wouldn't charge much and could do you a mock up for free. Have you got any pics?

Regards, Pete

sorry possibly wasnt being clear. I wasnt saying it was crap just outlining the likely amount the boat might receive on a buy out value. I think 70% of retail isnt bad for a no hassle sale.

my 'but you may only get 70%....' comment was made with regard the possible aspirations the seller may have of the sale of his boat not my views on it.
