Hi
I am endeavouring to have my Ruffian 23 classified as small boat classic status ( being now 50 years old and manufactured in uk) to help with trying to secure cheaper berthing fees. Ive registered with the nsbr and national maritime museum.
Any ideas?
Billy

Classic is such a hugely flexible term applied to many deserving boats and many undeserving - I would be amazed if anybody would discount berthing fees because you have a "classic"

Sorry, it is just another old boat like thousands of others. AFAIK the only "registers" are for "historic" ships. Maybe you are confusing boats with cars where there is a classic status based on age for tax and MOT purposes.

In conversation with a 'classic' owner about moving it down here from UK.. Quite likely he would get a reduced fee for the berth as it would enhance the 'look' of the recently expanded port.

The ruffian 23 was a racing boat was it not? Perhaps try* entering the classic yacht regatta in St Tropez and using that as an argument for being a classic to get your discount.

*try might be doing some heavy lifting.

We only catch the tail end of the Classics scene in the UK - Don't let that fool you, it's alive and well across the channel, in the Med, and the Caribbean. Festival of the sea was booked up 4 years in advance last time I tried. Makes RTI look like Tuesday night bingo in January.
