How tempting is this

The big problem here is that boats like this look as though they only need a tidy-up, freshen the varnish, that sort of thing. Then when you have bought her, she turns out to be like a spouse who snores loudly and continuously. My first thought on seeing the photo was that she would roll badly, because she looks quite narrow.
Peter.

The hull looks quite nice but the deck house would be more suited to a promenade as a shelter than on the deck of a boat although it looks to be well built. It makes it look top heavy but that may be the angle of the photo.

What about this if it's still available?

This one (Vere) was at Chichester Yacht Basin for the last 20 years, moored on the canal. She never moved. The fwd part of the wheelhse is original, the latter part added more recently. As the ad says, she had a steadying rig. This would transform the handling from rolly-poly nightmare to a seagoing vessel. In motor vessels of this period the rig is an often forgotten and underrated factor ! try driving a car fast down a bumpy road with no shocks......

A Dunkirk Little Ship? I would say, VERY!

She's not that narrow - 10ft beam on 40ft.

Yes, she'll roll, but that is what the steadying rig is for.

Admiralty double diagonal teak has been amazingly durable.

(interesting couple of engines!!)

But there are two big points, here:

First, she is a Dunkirk Little Ship. That is important. Most Dunkirk Little Ships are in the hands of enthusiastic owners, sentiment apart, it adds a good deal to her interest and thus her value.

Second, if she was a dog, she would not have lasted for the past 82 years as a motor yacht.

The pinnace is a very good sea boat having crewed aboard Mary Jane another Dunkirker several times, great accomadation below decks, though they do have a mind of their own at slow speed.
Vere does appear to have a lot of windage in the photo.
So try the ADLS web site on www.adls.org.uk and go into list of boats, three photos of Vere 2 interior shots and a much kinder exterior one plus lots of info. Her conversion was covered by Motor Boat 23rd Oct 1925.

I'm out of the country at the moment otherwise I would have tried to find out more information on her for you.

I think she is gorgeous and just the type of boat i would like to own one day . I have the feeling it's going to be more than just an interior refurb .

Re the Dunkirk little ship Vere

She is rather gorgeous, for sure!

There is a one page write up about her in the book 'The Little Ships of Dunkirk' - have you seen it? If not, I could scan it and email it to you, no worries.
