How qualified are you?
How many miles do you do a year?

Brian, this is a boaty question or did you mistake the question mark thingie for the NB thingie?

Not sure whether I'm qualified enough for what I'm going to do? Are any of us? Before you did the Atlantic did you think you were "qualified"?

Anyway with any luck I reckon about 8 - 10 thousand miles over the next year...

Oh, and this is my opinion, I have the moral fibre..

I have been intending to ask for some time now, this cruising 'kitty' thing of yours, is there any connetion to the other Scuttlebutter 'shipscat'?

I also do over 25,000 miles a year mix of private and personnal. Although I dont put the car through the company, save the tax, charge the company milage.

No. All I have is a VHF (dsc) radio licence and I attended a day skipper course about 15 years ago.

[/ QUOTE ] That's far too much IMHO - you wouldn't get to see much because you'll be spending so much time sailing.

I know the miles are high, you're probably right John, but I don't want to leave Asterie in the West Indies. In fact I reckon its more like 8,000 miles in 18 months. Remembering this is the first crossing not the last (I hope).

Strange you should raise that as I have been wondering the same thing.

Funding the cruising kitty - Yeah! yeah! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
More cruising kitty funding - Yeah! yeah! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Blowing the cruising kitty - Beast! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

What, do you and SWMBO never go erm.... head to toe?

Re: As a surgeon

or a bicyle repair man, not at all.

As a yottie. I'm a longtime sailor with a recent YM with commercial endorsements. I average about 1-2k miles a year on as many different boats as I can in as many sea areas as I can get to. My best year was 4670 miles and my longest trip is Southampton to Largs non stop. Best speed achieved under sail 18.7knots. Strongest wind ever experienced? I don't know it broke the wind gadget and quite a lot of the boat.

I must be good I'm certified. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Glasgow Schools' Sailing Club Helmsman Certificate 1973. My Mum said I should be proud of my achievement.

Dont know how many miles a year. Dont really care.
