For those that don't know, this was our first tidal mooring, accepted without knowing it was in line with a sluice gate which was open at low tide for most of the one week we had her there

Think this may well explain the leaks found over the past few days, that upright smashed into her port side at low tide a little too rough for my liking

Apologies to those that have seen the video's before

Now, anyone got any ideas how to trace a leak from the outside ?
Plywood hull so I'm keen to locate it sooner rather than get caught out at sea with yet more rot
 
Thanks Roger, though I should add, not only was it vacant, it was free. To be fair the owner did say that if we could put up with it for a few months he would have a better one to offer. But I think it's plain to see what would have happened if we had stayed there

Indeed, and if it is eroding antifoul there may not be much left on one side!

There really should not be a mooring available there at all. It is damage waiting to happen.
 
Not a problem Peter, we moved to Fosdyke Yacht Haven one week later and Louise took one look at the damage already done, and made the executive decision not to go back. We are now on a nice cosy fully serviced pontoon, only fifteen minutes drive from home.
The mooring in question is actually a privately owned one, which was there before the sluice gate was installed, and maintained for historical reasons rather than profit. When the sluice is closed, which is most of the time, the flow is slow and steady. I just happened to pick a week where the EA wanted to drain flood waters
 
good decision dave,apart from the flow,the steps down to the boat looked a tad iffy.

I made a bad mistake on saturday,i got the woodworking tools out,my intention was to build a galley in glissando,wifey spotted me and pointed out that i had promised to fix the stables some 12 months or so ago /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

ah well ive managed to fit the new VHF in /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif,ive fittied a new steering system and am now waiting for a part from the USA so that i can go and sail

have you been far yet?

Still working on a solution to my rigging problem so not gone far yet, looks like I'll have to raid Boston swindlery on Friday and hope I come out with a shirt on my back. Short four small u bolts to finish off, but nobody around here seems to know what a u bolt is. Once I've got them everything is set to clamp down and set off, but with a lack of wind last weekend we didn't miss much. George brought his boat back from Lowestoft on Saturday, had to motor most of the way then sit at anchor near Freeman chanel waiting for the high tide on Sunday, and he had hardly a breath of wind all the way

However, I don't know which one to go for without holding it in my hot sticky little hand. Need to make off new ends for two rigging wires by wrapping them around a thimble and clamping the two pieces together. I think it's 4mm rigging, but have not clue one which u bolt to use

FC beat me to it Dave,what you want is Bulldog grips,when i used to be called wot is known as a diver/rigger we were told to put three bulldog grips per eyelet,now there was a time when i would have said HALT!! ill come over and do yer a couple of liverpool splices,but its been over 22 years since ive spliced wire rope.

A couple of sundays ago ,i was at the Norwich boat jumble and i picked up some buldog grips for about 60p each
