Saturday afternoon was spent looking at three princess 33s around the windsor area. All with N/A mermaid diesels/shafts. all about 1980.One was really scruffy and unloved asking £38k.The others were £35k each and nicely presented with bit of history/invoices etc. How much would you offer to start the negotiations.

I'd go in at 28k for the best of the bunch, probably settle at around 32k subject to survey, and finish at around 30k when all the nasties have been found. It really depends on how good the boat is - and how badly you want it !!

Any ideas why the scruffy/unloved one was up at a higher price? The reason I ask was because in the 70s this guy bought a Grand Banks 42. He came down on it once, decided he didn't like boating and never came again. It lay there uncared for for 3/4 years getting steadily tattier. Eventually it looked a mess and was sold for a song. Essentially it was however a new boat and just needed some TLC.

Hello Byron. The condition of the first boat "we"SWMBO, looked at was bad due to neglect.nothing serious just all varnish totally absent from woodwork a foot of water in bilge, mould in cabin etc + no covers.. Nothing done for ages I would guess owner got fed up.Asking £ 38k and this according to brokerage sheet was a reduced price. However hull was sound with a few unrepaired stress cracks/ scrapes and gouges from locks which are an indication the hull has not been resprayed .Of the other two craft both had been the subject of the a good cosmetic
going over.Esp hulls. And by the way I am well impressd with appx £300 quid for crane out for hull inspection.Platinum strops?

WOW! £300 sounds a bit steep. Especially considering they stay in the strops and get put back in 30 minutes or so later, no chocking off or power washing required.
Ah! the joys of boat buying. Just as well I'm sticking with my boat. I may be seeing someone with a 33' non-flybridge boat later today. If I do I will get his email addie for you and you can contact him for some hints.

Is there an owners association? If so you might be able to gain more info on the boat(s) and or owners. There will also be a good idea of real values in there somewhere. Good luck.

If it's a real minter then 35K seems about right, but less if it needs TLC, also consider things like nav gear, and interior funishings etc.Personally I like the sound of the one with 140 hp engines, especially for sea/ estuary work,10 knots cruise with 80's you know.
What about the 38, any news on that one yet?.

IT MUST DEPEND ON HOW BAD THEY WANT TO SELL
TRY ADVERTISING
Make it clear you will only buy it if it's both in good condition and cheap
Also ring every yard you can find
I would start at £15 k because you want it cheap so that when you sell you sell at a profit

I've been looking at these via the net and the stuff the broker sent through. There are a couple of others in Norfolk with AYB, I believe.

I'd start off with £30K for cash but then I'm a tight git, not an oldgit.

Good luck with your serach.
